Noob Question? why do some laptops have 2 Gpu's ?

hey. im just curious one why this is as ive always been a pc dude but buying a laptop for my son and i keep seeing they have 2 gpus in them!

Im going to assume one is the iGPU and one is the discreet GPU. It allows for lower power consumption in non graphic intensive areas (like desktop) as it can use the iGPU for this and not the main GPU.

The IGPU is also what the laptop screen connects too.

This allows you to use the laptop without having to use the dedicated gpu all the time to save power and to pro long battery life.

Then will switch to the dedicated gpu when needed for gaming etc
