Noob questions

Hi guys, well i have read all the noob threads and am still a little confused, i OC'd a year or so back with the help of some guys on here but i have installed new ram and suffered blue screening so have come back to a default setting.

What i was after was suggestions of a basic over clock to start from, ie what to change in the bios.

I have:
Intel C2D E6420
Gigabyte Ds3p
4 gb (2*2) corsair xms2
BFG 8800 GTS 640
Arctic cooler pro

any help?

is your new RAM at the correct voltage? the voltage that the RAM requires may be different from the voltage given by the mobo when it's on auto.

I have the voltage at + 0.3 at the moment, and the speed set to 4-4-4-14 which is what is quoted on the chips anyway, oddly the other pair is quoted at 5-5-5-15, its the slower stuff thats new but its the same barcode ans sku on the packaging :s

current settings are:
mem ratio 2.0
fsb 400
cpu multiplier 8
mem 4-4-4-14
cpu voltage 1.475
mem voltage +0.3

Have you tried setting 5 5 5 15?

You generally have to set for the slowest pair, though 4 4 4 14 is hardly an excessive difference.

yea i have tried both, im still getting blue screens something related to the memory.
also i need a stress tester for vista 64!? any ideas?

Ok ill try that now, i've just taken the two modules out again (the new ones) and its fine now, the blue screen was "pagefault in un paged area"
any idea what that means?

Also a cpu tester for vista 64??

Stress tester? Prime95 or other such is fine. One sec while i get some links.
