Noob Questions

Both my monitor and computer are about 3 years old now and I want/need a new monitor. Probably no more than £200, maybe even a bit less, but I have a few questions.

1920x1200 or 1920x1080?

I don't game on PC apart from WoW and even then not hardcore. Will I get black bands all the time on either of those resolutions, all the time or some time?

What about TN monitors? I don't know anything about them, whats the difference and should I be getting one?

Also as my PC is about 3 years old, it runs pretty slow, will I need to upgrade any parts to help run a bigger monitor? I'm going to reformat when I get the new monitor.

Will I get a squished image with 1080 instead of 1200?

I noticed it's TN aswell, the dell one, are TN's as bad as some people say they are?

I won't be using it for HD gaming, just everyday things and a bit of wow. What would I need to upgrade to help me run a 24" easier?
