my mobo is a Abit IP35-Pro i have 2x 500gig sata drives plugged into sata ports 1&2 my DVD dives are in sata ports 3&4...i have no IDE Drives

I think I have done everything right so far..I am running XP Pro SP2 btw

1, I have created my raid drivers floppy disk via my Abit IP35-Pro motherboard disc

2, I have gone into the bios and changed IDE mode to RAID

3, I have set up raid by pressing Control+I

but now my problem is that my Abit IP35-Pro will no longer boot from cd in raid mode even though it is enabled to do so in the bios.

My DVD drives are SATA drives, do I need to install an IDE drive for the windows installation...this is the only thing I think I may have done wrong

cheers folks..hope you can help me its cracking me i've tried everthing i think

I did exactly what you have said when I installed vista 64 on my P5K with my SATA ports set to RAID (DVDRW was plugged in to the intel portsa as well as the hard drives - config as RAID 1) and it worked no problem.

I dont see why XP wouldn't boot, it should load the drivers etc and mention about pressing F6 for you to give it some RAID drivers. Do you see "Press any key to boot from cd....."? If not, double check the CD drive is set to the first boot device in the bios.

hi mate

I only get the option to boot from cd only when I am in IDE mode, if I am in RAID it wont appear on screen for some mad reason, all I get is the raid utility (by pressing Control+I) all I see in the utility is the 2 500gig hd's but no dvd roms.

My dvd is setup as first boot device in bios.

Great stuff...I have figured it out...all's I had to do was go into first boot device and change it from sata cd-rom too the model of my dvd drive Pioneer. I looked in this list earlier and I could have sworn that the option for pioneer was not there!!! but there you go!!

everything is (so far) working fine in Raid0, pc seems really fast now :-)

my only problem now is that I cant access the bios by pressing delete. Saying that though, its an intermittent fault, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. If I however plug my keyboard in the mobo via the ps2 connection it seems to work...if using usb its buggy

oh well, at least I sorted my first time Raid...only easy when you know how!! :-)

Hi

I had the same problem as you, I guess it is a "feature" of this mobo??

So I presume you want to boot from DVD drive to do a fresh O/S install on a new RAID array?

Assuming you've already set the boot order to be DVD drive in the BIOS as you say, the next step I took was to remove a second boot option, in other words only leaving booting from the DVD drive as an option. This alone didn't enable me to boot from DVD however, it would still boot from the HDD!

To gwt around this, you will need to remove the SATA cables to your HDD's and you will then be able to boot from DVD. Once you get to the O/S installation screen you can then reconnect your HDD's and carry on with the O/S install.

That worked for me anyway.

By the way you may get better help if you post in the HDD forum??

Hope this helps

Mike
