Been on intel for the last lot of years so the a64 setup of overclocking to me seems totally weird. Ive an opteron 144 and os far ive got it to 2400 just by messing around i suppose, the settings are as follows (asrock 939 dual sata):

Overclock mode cpu,pcie ASYNC

cpu frequency 265

pcie freq 100

cpu multi x9

cpu voltage 1.425

ram clock 200 (ddr 400)

flexibility option enabled

bank interleaving auto

burst 4 beats

cas latency 2.5
trcd 3clk
tras 7clk
trp 3clk

ma timing 2t

read preamble 9.5

async latency 11.0

dram voltage high

I need some help with what im doing, ive read some articles onit and they just come off as confusing, especially coming from a pentium background. Anyone point me to how to get the fastest speed possible for this cpu? :(

What memory are you running mate, as "ram clock 200 (ddr 400)" will be far too much for most pc3200 to go any further? Good start though! :)

Also - What have you set your link speeds to? Or have you left this on auto?

The rams just old twinmos ram i had from the p4 setup, it done ok on it though got to 250fsb which wasn't bad. Gonna be geting 2 gig of gskill next week, at the minute ive only 2x256mb installed as the ramsinks are too bulky to let me install all 4.

As for link speeds, is that the settings that go upto 1000mhz or so? If its that then theyre on auto. (just checked all auto)

If you can leave some suggestions for me i'll check back in the morning. :)

You stalker ;) I looked for some online mods but I think they are all asleep mate so our threads may well stay where they are! :(

:p

Just anxious to get this thing clocked up, gonna be ordering an x1900xtx in the morning, don't want a weedy cpu powering it. Hopefully tomorrow some info in this thread for me. :)

im sorry but what kind of funky heatinks have your twinmos sticks got? ive never had problems installing sticks next to eachother on the board.

anyway. its pretty simple. Get that fsb up as far as possible. 270x9 wil give you 2430mhz on the cpu with the ram at 225mhz if your running the ram on a 333 divider:)

The next step down for the ram is the 266 divider i believe. an fsb of 337 will give you a ram speed of 224/225 again, but will allow you to run 337x9 on the cpu giving you an upper ceiling of 3033mhz:)

Rember to drop the HT multiplier to x3 if your using the 266 ram divider, and push the fsb up in small steps and keep testing. i hope this makes some sense lol that's the only problem with an a64/opteron with a low maximum multiplier (9x for your 144 opty) - you need to push the fsb up high to overclock it.

my 148 has an 11x multi, which means 270fsb for me is 2970mhz for my cpu:) that not a problem if you have a decent vlocking motherboard though:)

Hmm kinda makes sense, i think  gonna have a go messing around and see what i can come up with.

The coolers on the ram are big akasa copper jobs, ive tried to get all 4 installed on the board but the 4th one refuses to lock into position with the bulk o the other 3 all squeezed together. Just basically cause of the way the ram slots are all sandwiched together on this board.

One other thing, what option is the ht multiplier? ive not seen anything labelled as that yet.

oh. are the akasa coolers aftermarket jobs then? the proper twinmos sinks are fine. Anyway you dont really need heatsinks on the ram mate lol

Well i just tried again with the ram, was able to get all 4 in but get no display with 4, take 1 out then im able to boot up. Kinda weird.

Anyhoo, whats the ht multiplier option labelled as in the bios plz :)

Might be LDT (lightening data transport)

And its HTT, HT is hyperthreading on intel chips

HT = Hypertransport for AMDs, thanks. known as the HT bus, also referred to as HTT - Hypertransport technology. Also it hasn't been know as LDT since amd changed it to HT in 2001. 5 years ago.

Can anyone tell me what exactly the ht option is in the bios of an asrock dual sata 2? Ive looked everywhere and ive yet to see something that says 2x 4x or whatever most articles seem to say it should be.
