Hi all,

I've done some work with a mates brother and as I've given him some advice on buying a new laptop he's given me with an old MacBook Pro running Tiger. It's a bit grotty, missing the left arrow key and has no battery in it so I need to find a replacement if possible.

I was thinking about selling it on but I've never owned a mac before and I'm thinking I may as well try and find a battery + replacement key then get to grips with it. Something else to add to the knowledge pool.

However, I'm aware Tiger is pushing 7-9 years old now and I've been warned about Apple's upgrading limitations in the past. What version of the OS can I upgrade to?

Looks like its a 2ghz Duo CPU, 512mb 677 MHz ram.

or am I best just leaving it, cleaning it up and passing it on?

not quite sure what os you could upgrade to but i do know from previous experience if you go to far up to date it will seriously slow down the machine.

however, not much has changed in the grand scheme of things if you just want to use it as a machine to learn how to use a mac. you may run into things such as programs you download may not run etc but you will still get an idea of how to use a mac :)
