im now setting up a raid 0 on my asus p6t se motherboard

im using 2 WD velociraptors, 300GB.

ive read my manual on how to do it but have a few questions.

1.im reading about various stripe sizes, my manual says 128KB for RAID 0 and general PC, but im not sure if thats correct/optimal aas im a noob lol

2. im hoping this is a yes.. can i just use acronis to image my hdd, set up win 7, then reload the image onto the new bigger hard drive RAID setup?

thanks in advance.. this is a new step for me until i get a SSD when the next bigger generation come out!

EDT..i know these are probably quite common questions, so apologies, im just wary as i dont want to ruin 2 velociraptors doing something wrong!
also is there anything i should do before going into the bios etc?

i have 2 seagate 15TB drives and a 500GB external which i will regularly back up too

so i see i think i will need 128 or 256 stripe.. but which would people reccomend?

i play games, like starcraft, crysis etc.. i transcode blue rays.. takes up to 10 hrs.. and use my pc for tv, internet, photoshop.. basically everything!

so is 128 advised or 256?

and also still interested in if i can use acronis to backup?

thanks :)

i cannot get the intel matrix storage console to open after pressing <CTRL+I> at post

Just as the BIOS (proper) is about to disappaer, then hit CTRL + I to enter the RAID BIOS, also do you have RAID enabled in the BIOS?

This is what I can't get to work.. I still have my hard disk. With win7 previous install om, do I need to format these first?

Yea, storage configuration is set to raid
And I press ctrl+i when the asus post screen is up

:/

When you get into the RAID BIOS and create your RAID0 array, this will wipe all the data on the Velociraptors, they will then be formatted during the Win 7 installation...

Make sure you are using the latest BIOS.

Also, disconnect your other HDDs and just have the 2 Velociraptors connected to first 2 SATA ports of the Intel ICH10R controller.

Remove your o/c and run at stock speeds.

Ok I had to reset my BIOS to stock, wasn't letting me into the storage matix,. Now I got 7 installed across the raided drives.. so that's sorted
I now have the problem of texting to get my backup to work... unsuccessfully so far :/

sucess!!

i have a 170MB average transfer rate with HD tune on 64kb setting

my stripe is 128k on the RAIDed drives. ive heard enabling intel write back cache can improve things further? any truth in that?

happy my boot times are down by 40%
