Hello All,

Recently just had enough of the Rubbish Virgin Media Wifi signal in my house, have recently installed a Nest Hello and it keeps dropping out due to the distance from the Wifi Hub to the Hello. Virgin did send out a Wifi Booster but since that has been installed and setup, my speed has now dropped to about 38Mbps.

What I want to do is install my Own Router and use the Virgin Media router in Modem Mode, my only issue is; I'd want the Router to be installed in the center of the house to easily cover everything and leave me with no worries on Signal Strength.

Because I want to install it in the center of the house, I want to use a Switch which I already own to connect all the devices behind my TV via Ethernet and run a Cable to the router (about 10m away) My worry is, it wouldn't work because the router would be connected to a switch and then to Virgin Media Router in Modem Mode.

Any help would be great to make sure this works before I spend out on a router and an Ethernet cable. I have sort of Designed how I'd like it to be, if that helps at all.

Hub -> router -> switch and the rest of the network.

Any other order won't work.

You could have Hub (in router mode) -> switch -> wireless access point.

If you're going to post an image make sure it isn't only accessible to yourself.

Ah Balls. Thought it wouldn't work but wanted ask.

Guess I'll order a new Router with a good range. Issue I have is the current location for Virgin Media is at the back of the house and behind the TV.

Was maybe looking at ASUS RT-AC88U but expensive piece of kit if it doesn't have the range I need, but does mean I can get rid of the Switch.

If you're only wanting to fix the wireless concentrate on that and use an access point instead of a router.

You can leave the hub where it is and run an Ethernet cable to wherever it is you want the wireless to be located.
