Basically, i used to make websites out of boredom a long time ago, simple things, in Dreamweaver, with very little actual "code" knowledge (best i ever did was iFrames :p).

A friend of mine has asked me to build a website, a simple 1 page kind of thing, to advertise their consultancy service, so im basically going to whip up some straight forward and simple on Dreamweaver for them.

Now, ive never actually bought some webspace before, but from what i can tell from the awesome thread in this section about webhosts, knowing which 1 to get doesnt seem to be a problem (Tsohost looks good). However, a website i built for another friend in the past, we had problems simply uploading the website, as i was used to using a simple FTP transfer that Dreamweaver handled itself. They only opened up FTP transfer after we contacted them.

Basically, surely i can do the same with the new host ? Or is there different methods these days ?

Sorry if i sound like a complete oblivious buffoon but i have been out of the loop on all this for years :) Thanks.

Pretty much every host uses FTP, I seriously doubt you'll have to ask your host to enable it.

I recommend WinSCP as the FTP client.

I'm not sure i'd even bother buying webspace for a single page site, just buy the domain name and use a free hosting site like 000webhost.

Ah didnt even know about this site, how do they get away with giving free space ? The paid space covers it ? Thanks for the link, may have to go that way :D
