Hi guys,

I got some question, I am bloody awful with software.

I am on Win10, windows it saying my PC doesnt meet the requirements for win 11, if I am completely honest I am not that bothered about upgrading anyway, so I guess first question is do I really need to? Or are the lack of security updated going forwrad going to be a real issue?

Second if I should upgrade to win 11, is it possible? My PC is an AMD 5800x, with an MSI X570 tomahawk motherboard, I would have thought this is modern enough, do I need to update my bios? Or is there an easier slightly less risky way?

Cheers guys

If you wish to stay on 10 for another year you can extended updates but it will require you to have a Microsoft account to do this.

You do not need to update your bios but its always worth checking what new bios releases fix

Does Windows update give you the option to upgrade to Windows 11?

Your hardware should be compatible. Maybe you need to enable secure boot?

The easiest way to see if a device meets the requirements for Windows 11 after making hardware changes to the device is with the PC Health Check app:

  1. Download and install the PC Health Check app. The PC Health Check app can be downloaded from the following link:

Download the PC Health Check app
  2. Right-click on the Start menu and select Search .
  3. In the Type here to search text box, enter:

    pc health check
  4. Under Best match, select PC Health Check from the list of results.
  5. In the PC Health Check windows that opens, select the Check now button.

No, it won't let me. It says my system doesnt meet the minimum requirements.
Most likely secure boot is not enabled as I think a lot of systems by default have it disabled.

As mentioned, do the health check and it should say what the PC meets and does not.

Try using a de-restricted ISO image. I managed to install W11 on a Intel Core 2 laptop. I think support ended on 22H2, can't install 23H2 but Windows11 did install

Yup I think it may be secure boot, I had to go out now, I had a very quick look and I couldn't obviously see the setting, I'll need to look in to it.

I did manage to enrol for the additional year security updates though, so cheers.

I figured out how to enable secure boot, it wasnt enabled before, bit of faffing in the bios to be honest I would have no figured it out if I had not looked it up. It says that my system still doesnt meet the requirements but I might give it a while, few weeks or whatever and it might change it mind.

Id ideally like to try and solve it witout installing third party software as I am always a bit dubious with that sort of thing.

Then either buy a new PC

or use a modded ISO/Rufus

:D

Have you run the pc health software to determine why?

Yup, just did.

Do not only was it secure boot (which is now ok) I also didnt have something called TMP 2.0 - but I have managed to enable that as well, health checker now says my PC is compatible for Win11.

Except windows itself in the update section doesnt, at the moment. But I might give it a little while to sort itself out.

I know you said you don't like third party software but in addition to Windows health check there's a little standalone prog you can use to see what needs changing:

If everything looks ok you could try the Installation Assistant to kick start the upgrade (don't forget to backup before you upgrade just in case...)

yeah I downloaded the windows installation assistant from teh microsoft webpage and I think its doing it.....

It failed the first time, with a random error code, turns out that means you need to run it as an administrator. Of course lol.

Anyway, I think.................its doing it now, its got further than it did last time

I hate doing all this sort of thing, if that isnt obvious lol

Thanks for your help though guys.

Ok well, it worked. On win 11 now, **** me that wasnt straightforward though. I imagine a lot of non tech savvy people would have just given up.

I confirm when I say tech savvy I am not including myself in that lol.

HArdware I am good at, software, nope, not interested either, some poeple are like, wow look at this windows what can it do etc, start exploring the features.

All I care about is loading steam up, discord, minecraft etc.

Anyway, will be interesting see see how much is broken now, maybe..... I'll be surprised and everything will just work.......

By the way, good idea to make some backups if you haven't already. Enabling secure boot and TPM can lead to Bitlocker/Windows Hello shenanigans.
