Hello,
I have just built a computer with a Gigabyte Z77-D3H motherboard and 8GB of Kingston HyerX Genesis Grey 1600MHz RAM.

The build went fine but I have just noticed the RAM in the BIOS is running at 1333MHz incorrectly. Now I haven't dealt with a computers BIOS for such a long time I am hesitant to just change the multiplier in case thats not all that needs doing. The multiplier is current 13.33 so am assuming changing this to 16 is correct?

Just want to confirm there are no other settings I need to do/look at.

Cheers.

Right, well I set the XMP to profile 1 which in turn set the multiplier to 16 which was all fine. However....came home from work today to find the PC turned off with no discernible reason, only thing I changed yesterday was the memory but checking CPU-Z it shows that it has the timings as 9-9-9-27 1T whereas the last part for my RAM is 2N.

Could this cause problem enough for the computer to shut itself down?

Cheers.

what mb is it? xmp doesnt always get it right,2n is slower than 1n i would manually set the timings yourself and the speed, set dram voltage according to the ram and might need abit more imc voltage, thats probably why it froze and shut down? idk

Gigabyte Z77-D3H as in my original post I haven't done this in ages so would appreciate a bit of step by step guide on exactly what settings to check etc

read your mb manual it will explain in more detail

but you look for spd system multiplier on gigabyte boards and set to give you 1600mhz speed

then in timings set the top four timing as

9
9
9
28
command rate 1T

then set dram voltage to whats printed on the ram 1.5v usually but you can use upto 1.57v if its still locking up ect

qpi/vtt for the cpu's imc should be ok on stock 1.05v so leave that, once you get the hang of it its easy, just start with 1.5v dram voltage and add one/two clicks more if unstable

Thanks for the help, although my RAM is rated 9-9-9-27 2N would you still recommend your settings?

ohh,i would try the rated timings first see how it goes, you could run 9-9-9-28-1t but you might need to add a little more dram voltage, you would need to test

Right, have set the RAM to XMP Profile 1 which has increased the voltage to 1.65 and then changed the DRAM Timing from Auto to Quick. The RAM was set at 9-9-9-27-1T at this point so manually changed it to 2 and CPU-Z is reporting the correct rates.

Am not too bothered about the voltage as long as it is stable and won't cause long term problems (the RAM is rated for that so shouldn't be an issue). Just running Prime at the mo to make sure everything stable.

Cheers for your help Wazza, was one of the reasons why I posted in the first place as didn't want to just change something when something else needed doing, appears I was correct for once lol!
