Hi i have a netgear router plugged i via a 25 ft phone extension cable is this likely to be slowing me down ? ie should i get a wifi card for pc and plug router in to phone socket downstairs rather than use long cable and plug pc into router with LAN cable? Is all that cable likely to be causing lag or anything like that? im a PC gamer u see... thanks for any thoughts/advice xD

It probably will do yes. Ideally you want the router plugged into the master socket with no extensions, and then use a longer ethernet extension instead.

It depends on the phone extension. Some are cheap and flat and sometimes not even fully copper and may drop you download speed but wont adversely affect pings. If its a decent twisted pair extension then it's not likely making any palpable difference.

As above though the best solution is router right next to master socket with very short rj11 lead and Ethernet to pc or switch.

Wireless would be a bad idea and will be significantly worse than an extension cable in most cases.
