Ok im a noob in overclocking and think im on the verge of cracking it. I have a amd 3500 + . If the mutli is 10, can i just put the fsb to 240 to get 2400 mhz? If i leave the ram and stuff alone and make sure pci e is locked im fine right?

(Hopes i got this right)

No, sorry :(

You need to put the HT multi (maybe calld the LDT multi) from 5x (maybe displayed as 1000) to 4x (maybe 800). Also, drop the RAM Multi (memclock value) to 166. Then that will work ;)

OCing without changing the HT Multi will damage your board.

What

It won't damage your board at all, the only problem too high a htt can give you is instability.
Ages ago (when I was new to OCing) I borked a board doing it, so I should know. There was no other explanation, looking back on it. I put the FSB just straight to 230 (it wouldn't boot over this, so I left it there). It booted fine and worked for a week, then it crashed and wouldn't even POST. One extremely dead board. :(

Since then I've learnt a thing or two.

That won't be anything to do with running too high a HTT, much more likely to be a duff board right from the start that would have died come what may.

the worst a high htt can do is corrupt the windows installation iirc.
Well that's what I thought. I'm only speaking from experience here.

I had the board 2 months and it was fine, OCed it and a week later it was dead. It may well have been chance, but it seems strange to me .

Nevertheless, I'm not entirely bothered. The point remains that it's a bad thing if you don't reduce the HT Multi when OCing. I think we can all agree on that :)
