Just heard that the last series' equivalent of Hue & Cry, Journey South, have covered one of my favourite songs of all time; namely Ocean Colour Scene's The Circle (especially the acoustic version Outside of a Circle). Decided to check out a preview of it on the web and they've absolutely destroyed with with layers of boyband schmaltz and over-production, not to mention they can't get the words or when to actually sing them right

Why can't these muppets and their fat-cat managers (Cowell, Waterman et al) leave well alone?! Journey South have not even got one billionth of the talent of OCS & so should have stuck to sickly ballads about falling for the girl of your dreams & not extremely lyrically powerful & poigniant songs like this

*edit* Just read that on their album they've covered Paul Weller's English Rose - that'll be another great song ruined then

I dont think its possible to Cover anything by Ocean Colour Scene and make it sound worse than when it was first released by Ocean Colour Scene.

It would have to be the equivalent of listening to a twice pirated tape recording of three drunken monkeys banging spoons on dustbin lids to sound worse than OCS.

lol yeah, OCS are pretty terrible. Nevertheless, these new bands should either write their own stuff or just not bother.

I love Ocean Colour Scene, seen them live a number of times and their acoustic sets are phenomenal - saw just Simon and Oscar at Music Live in Birmingham one year with only about 200 other people and loved every minute.

So that's Let It Be that Journey South have destroyed and now this as well. What makes things like X-Factor so bad is that all they do is make poor cover versions. I'm sure these artists have their own material but are dictated over what they release for maximum cash. I'd rather hear a half-arsed but enthusiastic original piece than a banal cover any day.

I used to really like OCS when they were first about. I was home a week ago and brought the two CD's i had of theirs back up to my house here and was listening. Theyre bloody excellent! The B-Sides album is great. Very chilled acoustic indie stuff. Cant see how anyone could really dislike them

:(

Weller > manufactured boybands.

Every other song I hear on the radio is an old one with some voice over. Not good really. Whats next - you dont even have to sing? Just stand there looking pretty?

Whilst I'm no particular fan of OCS, I understand and indeed share the OP's point of view.

Trouble is though, while the 'great' British public continue to watch dross like X Factor and continue to phone and text like a bunch of brain dead idiots, then ***** like Simon Cowell will keep getting richer, ITV will keep making the crap and non-entities like Journey South, Steve Brookstein (remember him? lol ...) and G4 will continue to clog the airwaves with their banal whining.

The solution to this is in the hands of the viewers, but unfortunately the majority don't seem too willing ...

Not a big fan of OCS myself but understand the sentiment, wanted to kill something when i heard will youngs complete massacre of Light my Fire by the doors

*Shakes fist at the heathens*

Ooh, I'm mad. Although mad in comparison to how I normally am is more like 'disgruntled'.

LOL.

Similar to what my bro used to say about phil collins' voice: "Like banging knives on a steel draining board"
