I've amplified this image in PS to show you what I've done tonight when trying to clean the sensor. I'm used to dabbing a couple of drops of eclipse fluid on a pecpad then use the swab to run the pac along the sensor as instructed. Done this for years and not had a problem.

Tonight is the first time I've cleaned the 5D3 sensor though and the fluid has left blobs running across that you can see and as such these show up in images faintly above f4.

Is sensor cleaning on full frame slightly different then or is the 5D3 sensor front layer protector of a different material or something?

I imagine I'll have to take it into LCE and get them to clean it properly now as the splatter pattern is dried fluid blobs.

I tried that but I used the last 2 pecpads up. On each one the fluid just left streaks, like as if the surface was way too slippery for the fluid to work on. I'll see how much it costs for LCE to clean it then buy some pre-moistened sensor swabs I think.

Ouch!

I've just ordered Visible Dust 1.0x Sensor Cleaning Kit and a Giottos rocket blower, total £23 ¬_¬

Yes same here, the last few pecpads I used today were bought years ago and the fluid bottle has mere drops left!

My sensor swab was for APS-C size though so I think maybe that's why it left drops.

The 1.0x swabs should do the trick :)

Aye iI watched a video of a very cool guy cleaning the 5D Mk2 sensor and he used the swabs which worked brilliantly hence why I ordered them too and a rocket blower!

Do you hold it upside down? This is the video I watched:

Also Johnny|lucidcomposure yeah I too was confused as the pecpads + fluid + swab was fine on the 40D but the swab size is smaller of course :p

Soooooo!

The Visible Dust swabs came today along with the Rocket Blower. I used the method shown by Santa in the video posted earlier, worked wonders and the rocket blower pushes some mighty air, so much so I'm using it inside my PC and car vents/holes now instead of buying canned air :D

The swabs @ £15 for 4 are a bit of a rip really and I used 2 as I chuffed the first one up but I doubt I'll need to use the remaining 2 any time soon.

I'm fresh out of pecpads too!

Although they work out cheaper for a pack of 100 so I will use these last 2 and buy fluid + pecpads and wrap it as suggested :D

Too late now :p

I've noticed one dust spec on the 2nd pic actually, it's so faint at F10 it's a non issue though. It may even shift when the power is cycled and dust clean kicks in :p

You guys read the thread with eyes yep? :-P

The blobs are eclipse fluid deposits that dried during cleaning as mentioned earlier. Nothing more and nowhere else. And all clean now as per pic above.

There is a slight smudge on the right side but as you say it's at f25, I'll be damned if you see that in normal shooting at all!
