My server machine just died. I managed to get my second GPU client going, after making a dummy plug. After a couple of hours I smelt a smell. I just assumed it was the dust on the cards getting hot.

I happened to look down just as my server's PSU went BZZZZT! accompanied by a flash!:(

Would seem my second GPU overloaded the PSU. A surprise really as I ran two GPUs on this PSU fine for weeks and weeks when it was my main system.

Had nothing but headaches with my GPU clients on this thing

I am praying it didn't do any damage to the rest of the components. Too late to start dismantling things and testing now. Oh well.

 Sorry to hear that S hope you get something sorted quickly and cheaply:(

I feel your pain mate, having a few issues myself.

Killed one hard drive this morning, another has started failing.

My psu's generally last 12 to 16 months and then as yours did go bang after continuosly running 24/7

Hopefully you will sort it soon.

Was a 600W PSU, dunno about the other specs. Can't even remember the brand. Was a better PSU than the complete no-name it replaced anyway lol.

It was running two GTX260s folding. Looks like I paid the price for not getting a beefier PSU lol. I just hope it didn't take everything with it when it blew. Q6600, Asus P5B Deluxe, 5 HDDs... >.<

Expensive job replacing all that if it's all toast!

On each occasion when a psu has blown on me it has had no affect on other components - hopefully yours are ok too.

Well it is always a concern, you know? I shall find out in the morning, I still have the PSU this now duff one replaced. Will quickly connect up a few bits and see how it goes!

My goodness, you put a Q6600, 2x GTX 260 and 5x HDD on a 600W PSU? That must have been running close to the line (as you found out)!

Hope nothing else is busted.

It was a little reckless I admit. However, it ran beautifully for weeks on end with the same configuration with no problems. Voltages were always rock solid. All I can think of is something nudged it slightly too far over the edge or it was just on a downhill the whole time! :p

Looking for a nice new 700+W beastie. Wondering whether to go for the OCZ ModXStream Pro 700 or the Corsair TX 750. I have the TX's cousin the HX750 in my main rig and love it. Rather not spend an extra ~30 quid for modular though. Cable management not a huge concern - Stacker 810 lol.

I am leaning towards the OCZ, mainly because I want to limit the amount I spend! I was planning on an upgrade to a Q8400 or something. Guess not anymore! lol

Sorry to hear that, but get a Corsair :D

My HX520 can run a two overclocked GTX 260s easily, and my HX620 can run them both plus the i7 @ 4.2Ghz with ease !

I like the Corsairs so may go with that. You say the 620 is enough? It might put the modular HX in the right price range if so.

Well my HX620 runs the following:-

i7 @ 1.4 @ 4.2Ghz
12GB ram
2x GTX 260s @ 675/1528/2250
1x Bluray drive
5x HDs
18W pump
7x 120mm fans

I may go for the HX650 then! A tad more expensive but worth every penny I think. I'd rather not see another PSU go bang any time soon! :p

I will place an order for the Corsair shortly and it will probably arrive Tuesday at the earliest. I will get it installed the day I get it and should be up and running then. If it arrives Wednesday I may not have time to do it as I gotta get stuff ready for a camping weekend. I leave Thursday morning so obviously if it arrives then it will have to wait until monday :(
