My TV has been playing up recently, only on input through the VGA port and the only thing I use through that port is my 360. Getting patches of colour appearing in games, but its fine if I run it through my TFT so pointing the finger at the TV.

Guys came out to try to fix it today, and as Im at work have to explain the situation over the phone. He came back and said Ive changed your settings from 1080 to 620. Erm? What? Bearing in mind this is not a HD TV, I checked if he meant the resolution. Yes, well thats no good its been that resolution for the past 2 years and the fault has just developed.

So they need to take away the TV to test, and worst of all the 360 to test with it! So no more GTA IV for me until it returns, at least I made them take the disc out of the tray!

:( <- Me

I know they don't, but Id rather they took the bloody thing and actually fixed the TV tan send it back unfixed as they can't find a problem.

If it's in warranty then it's up to them to supply something to test it with, and if it wasn't fixed, replace your TV set. I'd be going mental.
Id rather let them take it for a short while than put up with months of attempted repairs and the fault remains, as I know from experience how these warranty jobs can drag out.

Did you get them to sign something saying they've got your xbox?!?! If not, this could end badly.....
Yeah dont worry ;)

Ive made sure the company are aware of me being uneasy about them taking it, and they have increased the priority on the job to urgent. I'll also be speaking to Domestic & General about the matter and making sure they apply whatever pressure they can too.

I'm far from happy about it, but Id rather be without the 360 for a week or so than be chasing repairs of a TV for months while they try to diagnose the problem.

Looks like its Mario Kart and Wii Fit for the near future :p

This is the exact same thing that happened to my 360 before it stopped outputting any signal whatsoever, I too thought the TV was at fault but it was the 360's GPU dying it's a fairly common fault after RROD.

Strange though that it doesn't occur on your TFT.
It also doesnt occur through any other type of input but VGA.

When you said you tested it on your TFT was it through VGA and same resolution/settings?

The patches of colour that you described is the first thing I noticed whilst playing Forza 2, strangely I tried Halo 3 and it would be fine...

Then gradually I started getting the odd "No signal" message during boot until eventually it just stopped outputting any picture whatsoever, though it still loaded games fine and you could hear the audio.

It's a strange one but going by your "patches of colour" description I'd be more inclined to say that it's your Xbox 360 at fault and not your TV.
Yeah same settings on the TFT. Guess I'll have to see if they come back with anything. As I say, the 360 works completely fine through a standard scart input too on the same TV.

Don't know if theres much that can be done if it turned out to be the 360, as unless it red rings I don't think MS do anything do they?

I'm sure I have a picture of the screen from playing Burnout from a few months back on my old phone. I'll see if I can dig it out.

Sounds like a bunch of cowboys TBH, wouldnt be supprised if you never saw that TV or Xbox again:(
I havent just asked some random guy in a pub to fix my TV you know :p

They are an approved (If slightly rubbish by todays encounter :D) TV repair company contracted by Domestic & General.

I've always had in the back of my head that this was a problem with the console, but surely trying the console successfully with different connections on the same TV and with the same connections on a different screen is about all I can do. I'll post the picture up later on when I reassemble my PC as it looks like I would imagine if a graphics card was overheating, but this doesnt really sit right with the testing Ive done.

Unfortunately its bad timing in terms of GTA IV, I should have sorted this out sooner but just couldnt be bothered. Added to the weekend and then the bank holiday, probably couldnt have planned it any worse :p

Thats a picture of the Burnout Paradise demo I took a while back. It startes of with patches of colour, but after a long time it just goes mental :D. As I mentioned, I would point the finger firmyl at the 360 normally, but for the testing Ive done.

Tv and 360 are back, they replaced some board in it to do with the VGA output and fingers crossed so far all is looking good. Back to GTA IV.

To be honest, pretty damn pleased with the turnaround bearing in mind they wont have got it back to the shop until Friday evening and only started looking at the problem yesterday since of the bank holiday. Pretend you know what you are talking about and nag them on the phone, works every time!
