Hey

i ordered a OcUK 7900gtx last week and have jst got round to putting it into my system and I think its knackered :(

Before i rma it i jst wanna make sure that it couldn't be anything else so here goes.

1. i uninstalled drivers from old card, then ran driver cleaner in safe mode.

2.installed new card, turned on and everything appeared ok, then installed latest drivers from nvidia. Again everything appeared ok

3.Ran 3d mark06 to make sure everything was running ok and this is where the problems started. all tests were going great up untill the last one Deep freeze. about half way through there was red and blue blobs appearing on the screen and then it froze requiring a restart.

When it was back to the desktop everything looked normal so I tried again but the same happened at the same point.

4. Now i thought i'd try some games to see if theyt had any problems. BF2 worked fine. f.e.a.r seemed ok but performance seemed very low. Then i tried hl2 lost coast and the pics below shows what happened.

Is this definately the card thats broke or could it be anything else?
btw- ive tried reinstalling all the drivers again but still the same and temps seem fine 40-45ish idle, 55 under load.

Thanks for any advice

EDIT: Jst tried oblivion and after about 5 mins the same thing started happening as in pic 1

Have already re installed mobo drivers. Reinstalling windows was the last thing I was gonna do. ill try that in the mornin before i'll ring ocuk.

psu is a hiper type r 580 so I would have thought it would be ok.

Is there any way to test the ram on the card?

EDIT:Jst got a bsod- Machine_check_exception I'm guessing its related?

Have you tried underclocking the memory?

no not yet. not sure how tbh lol?

Ive never seen that purple crap before so i thought it was related. the card does the same as the first pic in oblivion and css. only after a 5 mins or so so that does indicate overheating.

how long does an rma usually take coz iv'e never had to send anything back before?

Thanks for the advice so far :)

Borked memory.
RMA time I think.

Yer I think your right :(

might be tempted to ask if i can pay a few extra quid and get a different brand (bfg oc)

will they do that or only swap it like for like?

It's the memory on the graphics card, my ATI card had this problem so did an RMA on the monday had a replacement by the friday.

thats cool im gonna contact them today. Iv'e jst reinstalled windows to make sure but no difference. :(

Thanks for the help guys!

yer i realise that now but the problem in the first pic is happenin in most of my games.

its worse in 3dmark06 on the deep freeze section as i get multi coloured blobs all over the screen.

I sent a web note to ocuk and they suggested trying different drivers but I had already tried that. :(

I am not saying your card is not faulty either, if you are having the same issues on ALL games it most likely is faulty. However, those BF2 artifacts I believe (after quite a lot of digging too) are driver related, either Nvidia, Mobo or game!

My 2 peneth.

The first pic is not from bf2 mate its from HL2 lost coast. The problem happens everytime I try to play and ive tried other drivers. The same problem in oblivion. Far cry just locks up after about 10 mins, Fear plays but at really low fps, Css artifacts straight away, BF2 does the same after about 10 mins.
The cards at stock and has never completed 3dmark06. It did finish 3dmark05 but score was really low for what it should be (about 8500 iirc)

By this time i got sick of testing and just removed the card and put an x1900xt in and all is good. Jst waiting an a reply from Ocuk to send it back unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Well I RMAd'd the card and they sent it back saying that there was nothing wrong with it.

I have since tried it on another two systems and get the same problem so I am not sure what to do now? I'm stuck wit a £300 card that wont work.

Any advice for what I should do now would be welcome?

Thanks

Well they said it was tested for 3.5 hours using:

3d mark 06,05
farcry benchmark
dxdiag
Fear SP demo
x3 reunion
pcmark
passmark burntest v4.0. pro

When I first read their email i thought well fair enough because if there was a problem it would have shown up in them tests. But after trying on other systems and stil getting the same problem that would point to a faulty card again?

Any thoughts on what to do now?

EDIT: Also, cant really affort to send it back again because if they say that nothing is wrong it will cost more money that I dont have :(

I've just phoned my local pc shop and they have said that they would test it for me for £25 (seems a bit much)

Do you think that it would be worth it and if they agreed it was faulty would that help me get a replacement?

Don't bother with it! You've already tested it, and it is a KNOWN problem among 7900s(especially the ones overclocked from factory, like xfx, evga etc.).

You should really demand a new card or something. You might want to get to their shops?

I see what your saying but OcUK say that there is nothing wrong with it even though I told them i've had tried on other systems?

Edit: I live no where near their shop so cant visit.
