Nord VPN blocking emails

I have used Nord for years along with EM Client for windows

All of a sudden it's blocking email connectivity, if I stop the VPN all is fine

Tried the following suggestions from Nord site

  • Change the outgoing and incoming mail ports your email client uses. Our service blocks traffic over the insecure port 25, so use other commonly used e-mail ports, such as 587 or 465.
  • Disable the Threat Protection Pro™ or Threat Protection feature (depending on which one you use) in the app settings.
  • Switch to a different NordVPN server. Your email provider may block access to its email services from known VPN server IP addresses. Switching to a different NordVPN server may help.
I have also tried uninstalling and re installing the app

Tried adding the app to "no vpn" setting in split tunneling too

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Could it be the email provider itself not liking Nord’s know networks, rather than an issue with the VPN service? Have you tried another VPN service to see if you still get the same issue.

Not tried another VPN but it's 2 different, unrelated email servers and both started failing at same time, thanks

Strange one. Usually one of the suggested points should work, especially adding to split tunnel. Have you tried a different protocol, they recently released the whisper protocol. I had a bug recently and had to raise a ticket whereby with a certain threat protection config random websites wouldn't load. After a few days of back and forth turns out it was a bug and was resolved in the upcoming version.

no idea what that is but will take a look, thanks

Looks like it's some sort of interaction between AVG and Nord causing the issue, reinstalled AVG and it was a bit hit and miss but replaced it with bitdefender and so far all good

Think I may well stick with the Bitwhisper protocol and see if it helps with all the Captcha checks that a VPN seems to cause and also certain sites when abroad detect a VPN and block you (Bet365 for one)

Have to ask, why are you using AVG? Despite MS being, well, MS, there is nothing wrong with defender. Third party firewall/AV is more often than not pretty poor for many reasons.

for no reason other than I have dome for many, many years

Long ago defender was poor and probably didn't even exist when I first started using AVG :P
