Hi,

Recently put on an 8120 and my temps are 46c (both checking from the CPUID and the Asus utility)

The cpu fan is at 1020rpm and the side fan is at 1580rpm.

The individual core temps range between 28c to 37c min/max.

Is that normal or should I be worried and reapply thermal paste etc.

that temperature is perfectly safe, guessing that is under load...? seems rather high for an idle temperature to be fair, I guess a fair spectrum of temperatures with my cores on here, though not that range cause of water cooling but still variations. :)

not under load really, pretty much idling. hmm I'll monitor it and if it gets much higher under load maybe ill reapply the thermal paste.

probably rather on the high side for a processor without heavy load, come to think of it don't think mine has ever idled at that temperature, its not even at that temperature at the speed it is currently at, perhaps re-seat cooler?

46c idle does seem high for stock clocks and the individual cores should be within a couple of degrees of each other at any given time i thought, from what I've read 70c max and 60c max per core.

what cooler is recommended then for this processor?

note that my antecs extra fans are on off/low settings for noise purposes, so I could always notch those up..

thing is though, under load they put out quite a few watts so a decent cooler is a must really, saying that though when I have the stock cooler on mine the temperatures were still much better than those mentioned...hell they were about that under load rather than idle.

Hmm, can't see why the temps are so high. Just reapplied thermal paste, resitted the cooler and temps are 49c at idle with all fans on, and the cores are at 39c. Doesn't make sense, maybe I should apply more thermal paste? I just spread a thin layer across the cpu.

The cooler I've got is not the best but it's not rubbish.

What cooler should I get? Also, could it be a cpu issue or is it strictly a cooling issue?

Don't know if this is useful but my cpu stats are:
Bus: 200mhz
voltage: 1.1375
nb voltage: 1.2
dram voltage: 1.5

could any of these be off the standard setting causing the cpu to overheat?

i just fot one of thees cpu's idle temp of 45C and is neally 55C wile just serfing the net would hate to fink what would happon if i play a game lol its also on the stock cooler

been finking of getting the cooler master V8

Slight update, I had two progs running to monitor temps, HWMONITOR and Asus' own tool. I turned the second off and restarted HWMONITOR.

Temps improved considerably, I suppose a conflict between the two tools resulting in false temp readings?

My cpu is idling at 41c with most fans off now, and the cores are now at 23-24c (almost halved!).

Interesting.

i used catalyst control center to under clock the cpu to 1.4ghz now runs at 43C idle and has a fan speed of 4300rpm give or take witch is verry noisy >.<
on a cold boot the fan is slow and speeds up over a time span of about 10 mins wile left to idle
may just be the thermal past but i dont have ane and no money after spening 430£ on this new pc >.<

you use the stock fan? found mine was very very very noisy, noisier than any other component in my system, makes no noise with water...!
