I was wondering if cooling paste hasn't been applied correctly to my i7 4770k or I was just unlucky with the chip because of the large gap in temperatures. Max temps are from prime95 test. Im using a Dark Rock pro 3 in a H440.

Thanks

I got same cpu but I have h100i cooler and my temps under prime after 1 hour are as follow 65 67 63 67 Celsius degree. Stock clocks. I think your chip thermal paste that Intel applied under ihs is unevenly distributed 13 degrees difference between coolest and honest core is quiet a big difference. Although the paste they used is is in one word shirt. There should be option in time they release 4770k to pay more and get better thermal paste.

Those temps above were under 4.3GHz overclock thats why they are little hotter. the cooling paste is Arctic MX-4.

On stock my 1 and 2 cores get to around 70 but the 3 and 4 cores hover around 60. seems like a crazy gap?

Gap seems quiet big but many Haswell cpu are like this. I was lucky and it's only 4 to 5 degree difference in my case. What voltage is your over clock at? Also I wouldn't recommend to over clock further as 85 under prime is quiet high which mean while gaming you will have around 15 degrees less but it's up to you what you do with your cpu

I just used the preset overclock so im not sure. I use Maya so that pushes cpu to 100% when rendering. probably just leave it with 3.9 boost till i need more.
