I listened to my mates PA system his has in his bedroom and its loads better than hi-fi seperates from places like richer sounds.

Is it better to get PA system if I intend to kick out some serious tunes or stick with hi-fi things

Im sure my mates looked something like this

More info on PA systems vs Normal Hi-Fi seperates required please :)

How much did the PA cost new and which particular bits of equipment at Richersounds were you referring to?

It's unlikely the PA system will be able to reproduce music as faithfully as a HiFi system. However if you are intending to blast out techno or something with high amounts of bass at loud volumes then probably a PA system is the way to go, as they can be driven harder without worry of damage. Also the amps and speakers generally have a higher power rating (unless you go for something uber cheap ;)).

After hearing the PA system in Fabric last night, I wish I could have a system with bass as taught as that. The D'n'B didn't do it justice, but the house/breakbeats room was just magical. A PA system is good for blasting out dance music really loud into a larger room, they won't be so good for listening to music in a smaller room. It really depends on what you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend as to which would be better for you.

Indeed - but the mid ranges can be very harsh and opaque, and the higher ranges can be quite 'irritating' (not sure how to describe them really :p).

as said it depends what you want it for
but generally a PA overfills a small room
i have decent HI-FI speakers and a KW PA system, the PA system gets used for normal PA system purposes and occaisionally sticking the tv through for uber neighbours, it's just too much for normally listenin to music, i'd suggest getting a bass heavier hi-fi setup if that's what's missing

It's easy enough to build yourself a slot ported sub-woofer (use a car audio sub) and get a power amp to make some serious bass...
