Normal temp for a GTX 750ti - is mine too hot?

I've got a new GTX 750ti (OC edition) and I'm not sure if the temps are a little on the high side.

My card is this one:

A lot of reviews talk about how the card runs very cool. However, I have seen mine reach 70°C. Generally it hovers around the 60°C mark underload, but certain situations do seem to push it up to 70°C.

When idle, it sits at about 25°C.

The fans never go above 35%, unless I manually override using MSI Afterburner. Is this normal?

There is a more popular version with two giant fans attached to the board, and this is the version that often gets reviewed. Mine, as above, is the single fan version, with a modest default overclock.

Any advice would be helpful.

Does seem too high, the 750ti I had (Gigabyte black edition, so high clocks also) didn't go past 60C.

Don't worry, it's working fine and believe it or not they're pretty decent temps.

You aint seen hot until you've had a reference GTX 480 or AMD 290X :p

I would certainly be concerned if a 750ti hit 90c.

Low power/TDP core that sips power (some dont even need an external power connector).

But the OPs is not hitting 90, he's already said it generally sits around 60 under load. Nothing to be concerned about here at all.

If the OP wanted lower temps he could always create a new fan profile and ramp it up a bit, but I see no need to do that with the temps he's getting now.

I'd rather have less noise with a slightly warmer video card.

Most the time it will sit at about 60°C. But certain conditions seem to push it to 70°C, where I haven't seen it pass. For example, in Elite Dangerous, most the time it's around the 50°C mark when in space etc. But in a hanger it seems to get pretty hot.

In terms of my case, it is a small form factor one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-173-BX

What about the fans. Shouldn't they be kicking in a bit more?

yeah, just the standard ones. I might play around with fan profiles when gaming, as having the fan at 45% hardly makes and difference in sound, but might help.

I have the totally passive version, overclocked to 1385mhz, tiny case and it never passes 57-58 degrees, idles about 22-25. I would say yours is running a bit warm considering.

Hmmm... To be honest, I'd never seen it above 62 degrees until today. Something about the hanger in Elite Dangerous makes it go crazy. Will keep an eye on it.

Again the temperatures anyone gets will purely rely on what conditions the card is run in.

The Palit GeForce GTX 750 Ti KalmX passive card in these tests ran 39 degrees idle and 80 degrees under load - link

But the reviewer also states the following.

Now I do want to make a little side note here. The temperature shown is based on minimal airflow. If you have a proper intake of cold air and airflow exhausting hot air, then your average temperature will be significantly better.

The Palit KalmX cooler needs a tiny bit of airflow to do some remarkable stuff. With proper ventilation you will notice load temperature go down to 55 Degrees C easily. So make sure the PC is well ventilated at all times, this will seriously help you on the overall GPU temperatures.

I'm betting with a little better ventilation in the OPs case he'll easily get his temps into the mid 50's. You've also got to remember the OP is using the model with a tiny heatsink and just one fan.

Tweaktown did a review of the reference 750Ti and the temperatures they got were very similar to the OP, with a maximum of 61 degrees after just one run of 3DMark Vantage at the Performance preset - link

Looking at the heat numbers, you can see we're sitting at the bottom half of the pack. The 61c load number is okay. It's not great, but it's not terrible either.

I'll say it again just for good measure, the OPs temperatures seem perfectly normal to me and there's certainly nothing to worry about! :)

Thanks for the feedback. Will experiment with better ventilation.

As an experiment I played Crysis Warhead (I don't own many graphically intensive games) on ultra etc for half an hour. Highest I could get it was 64. Although it averaged about 58.

Skyrim barely pushes it above 50.

For some reason the hangers in ED push my gpu usage to 100% solidly and keep it there for long periods of time as that's where you do trading etc. I think this combined with my small form factor and positioning (near to a radiator) isn't helping.

But anyway, doesn't seem like much to worry about at the moment.

Hmmm... still a bit concerned about this. I'd played around with fan profiles, and I thought I'd found something that worked.

But sitting in a station in Elite Dangerous for some reason pushes my card to 72 degrees. I know this is actually a perfectly good temp for most graphic cards, but I am a bit concerned that most reviews do talk of the card maxing out around 60 degrees.

Just a quick question. If I go into MSI Afterburner and reduce the temp limit (and power limit) I can dramatically reduce the running temp of the card.

I also don't seem to experience any framerate drop in the games that cause the overheating.

Is this a safe solution?

I had reference 480s in SLI and they really weren't anywhere near as bad as was made out.

People became obsessed with running Furmark on the 480 when it launched, but in the real world mine used to sit at around 80c hottest card in SLI with the side panel off the case.

From what I have seen about the 290/x it reaches the 90s during gaming, something that never happened to me even in BF3 which was quite hard on the 480s.

Only reason the 580 was cooler was because it throttled in Furmark.
