What's the best software for doing this? Found a guide for using VirtualDub but that doesn't seem to analyze the current audio and relies upon me setting a + or - value which can be pretty much hit and miss.

Also on another subject, what's the best software for converting stuff so that it's playable on an iPod Touch?

Well I've had a look around and it does seem that VirtualDub might in fact be the easiest option in that I can bypass the video and do a raw stream copy and increase/decrease the sound levels of the audio whereas most other software I've tried tries to re-encode the video.

Unless anyone out there knows better :)

you could use AC3filter and tick the "gain option"

Sorry should have mentioned that the films go onto my NAS which then media streams to the PS3 so I'm looking for a few key-clicks method to normalise the audio before saving onto the NAS.
