Just going out for a family meal and was hoping to mix it up abit and go to somewhere new.

Looking for more traditional british food if that makes sence.

Any recommendations would be brilliant

Were willing to travel within reason.

Hi mate,

We really like the Dog & Gun @ Potto, http://www.thedogandgunpotto.com/ seems to get mxed reviews but never had a problem.

Depends on how far you want to travel...for example we often drive through to Teesside park which is about 25 - 30 miles away which I would class as acceptable but to you it may be too far.

Fox & Hounds @ Bullamoor Northallerton for example is a nice spot - http://www.foxandhoundsbullamoor.co.uk/

Also other side of A66 to you guys is a nice pub at Stapleton called Bridge Inn - http://www.thebridgeinnstapleton.co.uk/ fantastic selection on the menu...if not a bit too much choice!

Kings Grill in Saltburn is about the best I've been to in the area, possibly not so much a family meal place though.

The Sutton Arms in Elton near Stockton is fairly good in our experience, menu is almost too big though.

Cross Keys near Guisborough can be nice.

The Ellerby is decent.

Further out The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge is worth the drive out if the weather is nice. Dudley Arms out the back of Great Ayton is worth a look for the steak.

Fox & hounds at Bullamoor is a lovely pub, they do peroni on draught too, i work just up the road from there. Royal Oak in Gt Ayton is good,as is the Black horse in Swainby. If you're feeling flush, try the Tontine just down the A19 at the A172 turn off. Central park in Midllesbrough do a nice parmo too, as does Europa (voted best in Teresside) Finally for now, the Sutton arms in Faceby, they do a mix of English and Thai dishes.

lol @ Toby

Good shout for the Orangery @ Rockliffe, however, i wouldn't take the kids there, they wouldn't appreciate it, i'd take my partner for sure though, though i imagine the same could be said about Tontine albeit on a smaller scale.

Meh @ Toby Carvery, I've never understood why people like them, pleh.

I'd second the Cross Keys near Guisborough, very nice traditional pub meals, lovely place.

Most of the good recommendations already mentioned. Another one to add although haven't been in awhile is Hamilton Russell at Thorpe Thawles. Does some good pub grub.
