Northbridge cooler?

Hi guys, im using a DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR, with a 7800 gfx card. The northbridge fan in this board has become very noisy lately so Im looking to replace it with ether a zalman or something similar, would one of the new Zalman ZM-NBF47 be good enough for a system with a decent overclock on it? or should I look for another fan one? The other concern I had is that there isnt more space above the nothrbidge cooler and the leading edge of my gfx card.

If anyone could recommed something that would work well I would apreciate it thanks.

The loation of the northbridge on the NF4 boards is a little problematic but not one that can't be worked around.

A lot of people wanting to replace the cooler on their northbridge use the Zalman ZM-NB47J and then either bend the pins or remove some of them completly. So that the GFX card sits in between the pins
I'd prefer to bend them myself as they will still work that way, but not if you remove them.

You could probably bend the fins on the cooler you mentioned but I wouldn't like to say for certain as I've not used it my self or even heard of any body doing that.

It pretty straight forward if you just bend the fins,as stated above, the first time i did it i cut them, but works much better if you just bend them

Only used the ZM-NB47J mate, just be carefull when bending the fins, take your time

Somew pics of the bent fin method here. I think they could have been a bit neater, but I guess I'm being a bit picky.

If you're feeling really adventurous you could make your own like the person on this thread here.

wow ok that seams like a little more effort than I was thinking of for a decent northbridge cooler, though the idea of making my own is quite a good one, I have a couple of quite tall older pasive ones that might fit, if I out out a groove down the center they just might fit, I think its time to do some measuring tonight :)

Or you could do what I did and just take the fan off and leave the heatsink :p . I bought the zalman but I was too lazy to install it. I get the same temps as before so that little fan was next to useless. And I'm running a fsb of 323mhz. But I do have a 92mm fan placed quite near, it might not work if you don't have good airflow.

my airflow isnt the best because of the system, I've recently added another gfx card for sli and my cpu hsf pumps out a lot of heat due to the over clock add the hot hdd's and the poor northbridge cooler has its work cut out for it.

Im get a new case soon that I can do a better layout which should help matters, its just a shame you cant get a decent low profile northbridge cooler that doesnt have a fan.
