Hi,
Anybody ever achieved a significant increase in overclock by upgrading their mobo`s northbridge cooler? I`,ve got a cheap (but not completely nasty) 650i based board and the northbridge on that gets hot enough to fry an egg, shutting down the system over 381mhz :(
Any help/informed opinions appreciated.

Ive got a 650i board and my NB cooler used to get stupidly hot alos. I just positioned a 80mm fan in my case so it blew over the cooler. The temps dropped loads.

Checks link, checks Noctua website, reaches for wallet, realises not paid until friday
Think one of these will be on order come monday,if there`s no improvement in fsb,at least it`s quiet (and it sure does look purdy :D )

It`s an option to be sure (cheap as well).Question is,did it help your o/clock
(assuming you are)
cheers
I think it did help yeah. I was stuck at 2.something Ghz.When i added the fan i managed to get it to 3.1Ghz and not bothered pushing it any further.

Reseating, Reapplying thermalpaste and placing a 70mm fan on it, dropped 10*c off my RD600 chipset's Northbridge temps under load and max FSB has gone up from ~450FSB to 485FSB. Still yet to push it further. :)

The more I can squeeze out, the better as I'm using an E6300 CPU. Looking at replacing the NB cooler with a HR05 non SLI when I am less skint.

Noctua's excellent and is very secure once fitted.

Had it on a 680i with no fan and it was fine. you'd have to have one hot chipset to push it beyond it's limits i'd imagine!
