i was just wondering i have a gigabyte 8ik1100 motherboard at the moment (till i get a conroe setup) my fan on the northbridge fan has become very annoying. its on a heatsink and i was just wondering do i really need it? or is there a setting in the bios i can use to lower the fan speed

I have disabled the fan on my epox board and just have a low RPM 90mm fan (950rpm)blutacked to the bottom of the case and aimed at it :p Although it didnt even reach 40c under load when the fan fell over once so it is worth a try.

Depends on the chipset. nf3 needs a good passive heatsink, nf4 needs a fan or a passive heatsink with good airflow. If it gets too hot you will get a bsod or it will smoke. I've done it twice and it did survive tho.
