The foregrounds were about the best I could do stood on the guesthouse patio. Trees in Iceland are few and far between less than 1% of the country is classed as forest and most of those are knee high!

I would have loved to have got some better foregrounds but was sat back enjoying the show rather than jumping in the car to find a better location. I only clicked off 90 photo's in about three hours as I didn't want to take my eyes of the ever changing sky!

Yup you literally have seconds before it changes to another part of the sky or moves fast and goes fast. Miss it and it's gone!

Totally we were driving along one night and saw a beautiful red and green sky over a snow capped peak by the time we stopped the car got the tripod out and set up it had changed to a green on the other side of the road over a dark silhouetted peak.

Fantastic shots, its amazing to see isn't it? :)

It has been on my bucket list for years and it was just as magical as I hoped, I would ecomend Iceland to anyone interested in Photography not only do you have a great chance of seeing the lights but the country is stunning and has so many contrasts and such natural beauty.

incredible.

i love all pictures of the aurora and like many others its on my bucket list of things to see.

its fascinating.

Thanks

It's funny how it is on so many peoples bucket lists at the miute, I think I read in the guardian that is was number 1 in a recent survey!

The people in Iceland are really funny about it as they take it totally for grated and only take an interest if it is a massive storm or if there are tourists about.

Our first guesthouse owner was reall exited about the storm pictured in this thread as at the time it was the biggest one so far this year and he wanted some new pictures for his business page on Facebook. He asked if he could take a picture of all of us taking pictures of the sky and it was on facebook before I got up the next day :)
