Northern Lights

My Daughter says she is going to Reyjavik (outskirts) on Tuesday for 4 days and it is costing her £310 for flight and hotel + B&B, transfers in Iceland are £30.

Do you happen to know what site she booked through? Been looking at going for some photography and that seems a pretty good price from what I've seen so far from searching around.

A few bits rubbed out -

She also got her £30 transfer through the hotel

I was in Iceland with the girly over christmas, it was nowhere near as expensive as I was made to believe.

Amazing country regardless of the northen lights (although they were why we went :))

I also ate some minke whale and it was possibly some of the nicest meat I've ever had, puffin salad was a let down though.

I spent 10 days in northern Norway and Russia on the 69th parallel and saw nothing :( although I didn't go to see them it would have been nice.
It's something I want to see though :)

Book the flights direct from SAS (Scandinavian airlines) Cheapest I found.

3 Stops mind, but for £310 return I ain't complaining. :D
Heathrow > Oslo > Stockholm > Kiruna

Norwegian is 99% of the time cheaper to fly with. And they offer a great service too. I only fly with them :) Sometimes I'm lucky to get tickets for under £100 with luggage both ways (to Norway). Quick look gives around £300 even for flights without stops to Finland.

Say if you want to see them in Norway, fly to Oslo -> Take the train up north, can be anywhere between £10 and £50 for a one way ticket and the train journey is a travel in itself :) A lot of nice sights when they go over the mountains.

I've experienced northern lights several times in Trondheim and that's not very north. So anything above that.

I hope this carries on til next week and I get clear skies. Arctic Finland here I come. :p

Bet it'll be really cloudy the whole week... And/or no lights. :o

This is so damn annoying. Been checking Aurorawatch all week, and not a flaming sausage comes up on its system, yet it was so amazing up at Gairloch on Sunday?

Wtf?! I feel cheated, that view was stunning.

Would North of Ullapool or around Durness give an even better view than Gairloch?

Or is slightly west facing the best?
