What is considered a normal operating range for a 2.6 gig (200x12) northwood P4 running on stock cooler?

Got a friend with one and its running at 60c idle and 70c under load. Only familiar with athlons but i am guessing its a bit on the high side?

cheers

Yes thats at stock settings.

No doubt a clean would help it but its got a warranty seal on the case so i cant get inside it.

Thanks for the speedy reply (2mins!)

That's quite high for a Northwood. My 2.6 Northwood idles around 48 at stock, mid 50's idle when overclocked to 3.0GHz. I would make sure the heatsink/fan unit isn't all clogged with dust because that seems a bit too high. Or maybe check there's good airflow in the case.

On the other hand, 70's under load isn't anything to worry about and as long as the machine is stable I wouldn't lose any sleep :)

I have had 2 N/Woods, 2.6GHz and 3.4GHz @800FSB with HT, at stock speeds, both with stock cooling idled at around 32-34C and were always below 50C at full load.

60C at full load is (in my opinion) far too high. Try reseating the heatsink/fan assembly, and use some Artic Silver 5. :)
