Right, before I start, I know Norton is hated in these forums. The problem is with a neighbours computer, not mine. I am just trying to help him sort it.

Right, the problem. Basically, the Norton software cannot connect to the internet... but heres the thing... it connects when you install it and works perfectly. The moment you restart the computer, it stops functioning.

I reinstalled it yesterday and did all the back-ups and updates before restarting (so atleast everything was up to date)... and now it just won't connect to the net.

Any ideas? I'm stumped to be honest.

Thanks for all advice in advance.

Download and run the Norton uninstall tool, turn on the windows firewall and install Security essentials, it'll save you time, grief, and him money.

Sorry but Norton is an awful piece if software that ignores what you tell it to do and does nothing but cause problems, you could be done with the whole issue in around thirty minutes.

Is there any other AV or firewall software on there?

This sounds like the most obvious problems. Have you considered using the removal tool for the previous piece of software you had on there? All the big ones (McAfee, Norton etc) all have tools that will totally get rid of their software, but you will need to search for them.
