Basically I hate it. I've been using Avast for a while now and it seems like a very safe and secure program. Norton on the other hand is not, it slows the computer down, eats up valuable resources and is generally crap at doing the job people are buying it to perform.

I really wish people would stop buying it and just use the good free virus programs that are available and IMO better than most you could purchase.

Sorry if this sounds like a bit of a rant but i'm getting tired of fixing friends and family's computers that have either been reduced to a crawl by Norton or have been riddled with virii that Norton has failed miserably to block.

Dude i whole heartedly agree with your rant. Not really in the mood for a full slating but in my experience its crap. Bloated system slowing overbearing crap.
I had a free 1 year sub to Norton and still don't use it so basically even when Free i won't use it as i feel its that bad.
I use Avast which although not as light as Nod32 is Free and i like free and have plenty of resources to cover the slight extra usage.

Down with Norton.
Perhaps we should have a pic thread of Norton disc destruction that'd be fun.

Ive been installing norton internet security 2005-6 daily on customers pcs now for 2 years and what can I say ? customers always complain that my pc is now so slow when starting up and as if its my fault.

So rather then look at sales, I offered them a better service I recommended them AVG ;) Managers dont like it but hey least it makes my job 10x easier and at least I can fix there pcs easier....

Symantec should just buy out Nod32 and they already brought out sysgate so dunno what they doing...

Man, no they shouldn't. They'll ruin that aswell. They bought Sygate, one of the best free firewalls available and within a month announced that they were no longer going to provide updates for it.

People should stop buying anything made by Symantec thus stopping their cashflow and making sure they can't buy up any more competition just to shut them down.

I agree... first thing i do when fixing a pc is remove anything symantec/norton related. 90% of the time this alone fixes it lol.

Utter rubbish software thats only popular because of the fact that half the purple land is filled with it.

I think they intended to buy it and then stopped it being free to kill off the competition.

Let's hope it is not going to happen to ZoneAlarm.

Windows SP2 Firewall & Defender is our only hope! ;)
