Just done a fresh windows install after getting my x2 4400.

Installing a trial or norton i have, 90 days free updates. Ive installed it. It says it wants me to restart the computer before it can work. When i restart i always get the same message up.

I tried to uninstall it, but it wont let me till ive done the restart.

any ideas why its doing this? how can i fix it. I could do a system restore but it would mean installing cod, cod uo, cod2, oblivion and company of heroes all over again.

Try get rid of norton, get AVG or something like that thats free. Norton is not a good AV IMO. It takes too much resources up unless its the Business Edition.

thats not actually the question i asked.

Firstly, i cant "remove norton" because it wants me to restart first. Second im aware of everyone saying norton is a resource hog etc etc, but in my opinion and experience is fine. AVG on the other hand is crap i have found, takes 3 million years to scan and for me atleast is crap at finding viruses where as norton actually picks them up.

Thirdly, i have 3 months free trial of a product that usually costs £40 ish for a year, may as well use it.

I believe there is a tool on the symantec website that removes all traces of norton allowing you to reinstall it ( should you dare! ).

I dont have the time right now to find you the link buts its deffinately there somewhere as ive used it recently on a customer's pc.

i tried booting into safe mode, running norton but norton crashed twice. i restarted back into normal windows. its now working as it should, i guess it sorted it self out in safe mode :)

I hate norton,

There are better alternatives Like windows firewall + NOD32 they dont take up as much ussage as norton ;)
