I just keyed in TNT2 into google...

Wow...

32Mb cards. Most were 16Mb.

Core speeds were around 100Mhz to 175Mhz.

150Mhz to 183Mhz SDRAM memory..

AGP x4,x2 x1.

Overclocking to 190/200 (at best)

Still looking at 60 fps on Quake II though...

Then, my very first graphics card...

the Riva128 TNT

Wooo hooo....

90Mhz GPU, 110Mhz RAM

On my K62 450Mhz

Those were the days...

Still got (and use) my RivaTNT2 Ultra!!!

It's not easy finding the latest drivers though ;)

Really?

Im thinking of sourcing some really old components. Start building a museum...

You know, like a pentium 2 system with a voodoo card running quake...

:D

My first PC (Advent PentiumII 266 that cost £1000 in 1998 - don't laugh!) came with a 4mb ATI Rage128 or something. Pretty useless.

I soon upgraded to a Matrox Millenium G200 8mb, but not long after that went for it and got a Matrox Millenium G400 Max Dualhead 32mb - they were the bees knees in their day and I stuck with that for yonks, even moving it over when I built a new PC.

My next card was a Connect 3D Radeon 9200 128mb which lasted 2 to 3 years, great little passively cooled number that I first played Half-Life 2 on - coped with it pretty well at lower settings.

I then got a ASUS X800XT Platinum Edition from OcUK about a year ago - fantastic card that went wonky after 2 months... and I'm still waiting for my replacement (nightmare scenario involving 6 months of hassle with useless ASUS UK 'support' just trying to get an RMA direct, followed by giving up and going through OcUK to try to get it sorted... er nearly two months ago)

For a brief period I had a fanless Gigabyte 6600GT - my first foray into the world of nVidia - great cheap little powerhouse, but I sold my PC (the ASUS fiasco was the straw that broke the camels back for me as regards system building at the time) and got an Intel iMac with a Radeon X1600 onboard - very capable chip that had me playing most XP games via BootCamp at the full 20" widescreen rez with high settings.

But the iMac just didn't cut the mustard for the price paid and I sold it after about 5 months - wanted a decent gaming PC for Oblivion etc.

So right now I'm blasting everything with my X1800XT in my new rig... but have my eyes on the X1950XT when OcUK get 'em in ;)

Mind you, I got an old Dell Optiplex GX150 Pentium III 1ghz for £65 the other day and I've just ordered a £20 Geforce FX5200 for it... just a bit of fun messing about with old kit :)

Great cards were the TNT2's

Used to have a TNT2 M64 (Budget Version) & a 32mb RIVIA TNT2 Ultra. My First graphics card with a fan... :D.

About a year ago, I built a low end but top end spec for the time PC to run classic games. It was..
P233mhz, 128mb Ram, 16mb PCI 3Dfx Voodoo 3, Creative SB Pro, CD-RW. Used to throw everything at it.
Quake 2 ran like a dream, Unreal in Glide, Half Life. Regret giving that away to my girl friends young brothers now :(

After the Voodoo3 i went :-

Gf2 MX
Gf3 Ti 500
Gf4 Ti 4600
9800pro
x800pro
x800 XT PE
x1800 XT which is my current card. :)

Been a great ride so far. :D

Hehe... has been fun testing out games on that Dell with its shoddy 4mb onboard Intel graphics (though the Pentium III is not a bad chip really) - quite surprised that Half-Life flies at 1024x768, as does Homeworld... but I think the FX5200 will allow me to get some of my other old faves up and running - Max Payne, RTCW, X Beyond The Frontier, Deus Ex... maybe even Morrowind at a push. Why the hell I'm bothering I don't know. Devil makes work for idle hands etc.

By the way, I'm a Marky B too :D

hey there ;)

If you have a slot free, Either AGP or PCI try and get a 3Dfx Voodoo 2 or 3.
You can pick them up for pennies now and are real gems for older Games.

Most games in 1998-99 have support for Glide which used to be so much quicker than Directx.

Yeah, my m8 gave me a voodoo 3 card. But it broke after 2 months...

When I went onto Dx, I wasnt impressed. Glide was so much better in my humble opinion. Its such a shame they went under... It would be nice to have them around today.

After reading some of the posts, and some classic games mentioned, I think I will go for a PIII with a voodoo card...

Picked up a pair of Voodoo2's for SLI last year and a voodoo 1 not long after. Really surprised how well the voodoo 2's ran UT actually, decent res and decent performance :D
