Nostromo dying - tartarus, g13 or other?

So my trusty old n52 seems to be on its way out, cant complain its lasted a very long time & done everything I asked of it, I know razer bought the nostromo rights off belkin & are now calling it tartarus, & the only other item that looks pretty close is the g13.

I have some reservations about these two:

Friend of mine is a much lighter user than me & has had his razer items break pretty quickly, also it seems you have to install some software called synapse or you cant edit the key functions, this synapse has been called spyware (by others I have no experience) as it tracks all your gaming habits. It is also said to feel cheap & plastic.

The g13 however has also had a few complaints about reliability with the buttons round the thumbstick packing up.

Also wondering if you can change/remove the wrist rests on both of them, first thing I did was take the rest off my nostromo as it was much more comfortable without it.

So anyone had much experience with these or knows a good alternative?

Thanks.

My Nos gave up a little while back (I do miss it)..

I got the Tartarus, which isn't as good as the Nos (imo). But its o.k. and does the job. Before that I got the G13 delivered, but for some reason the software caused a problem, could have been win8 at that point in time. I sent it back and went for the Tartarus. I debated on the Orbweaver but didn't go that way. I think I should have perhaps, what with it having more buttons. Still..

I like my Tartarus though and will play with it until it breaks, then replace with either an Orbs or whatever else is around then. Not Logitech for me though. I got a G19 and the software for that is unreliable too. Could be win8 not sure, but the build quality on Logitech is pretty low anyway, not changed since it was a cheap brand, years ago.
