Hi all,

So with my remaining Chrimbo money I'm looking at upgrading me PC, but with a new baby in the house I haven't got Sandy Bridge money :). My current system:

C2D E6600 2.4ghz (at stock atm)
4gb DDR2
Geforce GTX 260

I don't want to replace the graphics card at this point, so I'm looking at the CPU, which will necessitate upgrading the mobo and probably the RAM, so I'm looking at OCUK's bundles.
I've got a budget of about £250, maybe £300 if the Phenom bundle is worth it. I'm just wondering if based on my specs I'm better off just OCing the CPU (which I've never done before) or if the new CPU plus the DDR3 RAM will make a worthwhile difference (plus I get to sell the old components).

Any help appreciated!

Hi there, may I ask what the make and model number of your current motherboard and RAM are?

Also, is your CPU just using the stock cooler at the moment?

The mobo is an EVGA nForce 680 SLi (this one). The RAM is 2 sets of these (quite surprised to find em still on sale). And yes it's just using the stock cooler, although I do have a Scythe Ninja Plus cooler round here somewhere that I couldn't figure out how to put on when I was building it.

Ah, in that case I would suggest selling up and starting fresh instead of upgrading/overclocking. To give you some idea of what you can expect for your kit then I had a look on the members market.

The CPU should next you £35-40, the RAM £30-40. Not seen any fully working 680i boards on their own recently on the MM, so I would guess ~£30 for that. So a total of ~£100 from your old parts - not too bad.

With that money in you back pocket Sandy Bridge may be reachable. The i5 2500K CPU is £190 a decent P67 board is £100 (£150 if you want SLI capability) and 4GB DDR3 is £40 - so a total bill of £330 (£380 if you want the SLI option).
