Not a spec me, but suggest to me...

There aren't many cars left if she doesnt want a TT, and an S2000 is out of the question.

There's the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxter and the generic Convertibles like Ford, Audi A4 or Volvo.

If its some bling she wants then something like the Z4 or Boxter will do it, but finding one with a weedly engine aint gonna happen.

She could get a ~10 year old Boxter with <60k for around 10k. Certainly turn heads but can she afford to run it! ?

Hmm... she could afford to, but would she want to is another question. Boxters are fairly powerful, but from my eperience are quite safe and easy to drive when compared with other "performance" cars. Or has my limited Boxter experience kept me ignorant to a dark side? ;)

Something difference? (A much better car than the Brera)

Or...

Same issue as an Mx-5?

OMG That GT!! She can't have that because I want it! :p

Seriously though that is pretty much spot on for what I think she should get. It has the wow factor to impress her friends, has a great spec to keep her happy, has an engine with enough poke for her needs and again it is a stunner!! I will pitch her the idea and see how she reacts. This is a "new" Alpha (04 onwards) so I'm hoping reliability is not an issue.

The RX8 she doesn't like, well she likes them but doesn't want one as her friend had one.

But that Alfa  absolutely lovely car.

It's a mid engined rear drive sports car. I see no reason why its inherently any more or less safe than any other similar car

I'm not sure, maybe because it has good driver aids... I don't know, when I drove one it felt really easy yet slightly boring. No where near as twitchy as an S2000 and the acceleration did not feel as "kicky" (only way I can describe it) as the 350Z. Maybe I got the wrong idea, I was concentrating more on contorting all 6'5" of me into the small cabin rather than driving it properly.

No major reliability issues, check all the gadgets and eletrics work perfectly as that's the only real thing you need to look out for. Check front tyres and brakes as it's FWD, lovely cars and plenty falling into budget.

None of the cheaper older Boxsters have stability control.
