:o :D

Yup sorry, its an easier one I hope though LOL

Looking at a few places selling PC stuff, I thought my system wasnt too bad..... up until 2 yrs ago I had the best of everything in the system... but I dont use the PC as much as I used too, and havent really bothered about upgrading it.... until now! Im starting to get back into online gaming, it was the major part of my time on the PC, so I want to upgrade but think I will have to start from scratch... read on and tell me *** you think please.....

I have a memory stick thats playing up, part of a dual stick system on DDR (the first version not DDR2 LOL) and it seems the memory ss still available, but its way out of date!

I am running an ABIT AV8 third Eye Mobo with dual DDR ram (2 x 512) its PC3200 dual channel 400 im pretty sure.

I have an Athlon 64 3500 CPU in it, and a Gainwood 6800 Ultra Graphics card

I still use a Soundblaster Augidy 2 Platinum soundcard its done me well over the last couple of years

Im a little lost TBH I should have kept up with it all, but I didnt!

So... I want to game! Thats a major priority! I really would like to stick to the AMD range of CPU, and in my system I currently have a couple of SATA HD (250 gig each)

Im running a Viewsonic VP930 monitor which is fine for me as far as i know, so really I need advice on a new Motherboard, ram, Graphics Card, Soundcard and anything else thats changed since I've been working so dammed hard LOL

I have a Lian Li Case, a damm decent PSU but for the life of me cannot remember its name LOL and obviously I have a mouse, Keyboard, Printer

please let me know guys n girls

Switch to an Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe processor, way way better at the moment. Back when you were really into PC's AMD would have been the market leaders but the new Intel chips are superior in pretty much every way.

What kind of budget have you got?

mhhh I recon a budget of £800.00 but obviously dont want to go mad if I dont have too :)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail ???

If thats the one, what type of MoBo, memory and Graphics will I need?

You need an LGA775 motherboard, I highly recommend the Gigabyte DS3, I have had it for about a week now and it's great, all the overclocking settings you could possibly need and the board itself is very high quality.

I bought the 2GB GeIL Ultra Low Latency 4-4-4-12 PC6400 memory but there are others with a very similar spec, people will recommend different brands but there isn't much between them.

Graphics, people are going for the GeForce 8800 which seems like a good idea as it's a damn powerful card. I didn't upgrade from my 7800 GT OC as I don't think it is worth it as the jump isn't that great.

Yup I'd go with the E6600, very good processor. If you are going to be gaming on it I would go for an 8800 GTS, either model will do. This spec seems good to me:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - £182.11
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - £88.11
CellShock 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit - £158.61
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - £260.84
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Soundcard (OEM) - £46.99
Noctua NH-U12F (Socket LGA775/754/939/940/AM2) Heatsink - £36.41

= £783.60 inc. VAT and delivery

A lot of this is in 'this week only' so its lower in price at the moment, seems like good value, particularly for the Ram which is excellent stuff.

That's the processor, mobo, memory, graphics card, sound card, and cooler. Was there anything else you said you needed? Which Lian-Li case do you have?

thanks guys....

i will flog my old kit on Flea Bay might get a £100.00 for the Motherboard, CPU and Graphics card mighten I?

I will sell the ram as is, and also say there is a faulty stick too as I have a good Ebay rating :)

The Lian Li im not sure, erm, might need a new case to be honest LOL so again advise me please :)

The case has 6 bays for CD/DVD drives, 3 x floppy (What a stupid idea that was LOL) so if you know, let me know ;)

Your case may be okay, I actually used the case from the build before my last for my core 2 setup (raidmax case in sig). As long as it can fit the PSU, motherboard and graphics card I see no reason to upgrade unless you want something specific that your current one doesn't have.

Like my case so would like to keep it :)

What PSU do u recommend out of interest?

I will look mine up tomorrow let you all know, but its a damm good one im sure cost me over a ton when I got it two years ago

I would probably go with one of the Corsair PSU's, very well regarded and have excellent reliability at a competitive price.
