or am i just used to it now.

i have a yamaha 5640 RDS av receiver ~80-90wrms a channel, connected to the pc

the speakers are warfedale laser range 30's

at -50db its used to be loud, now i see myself turning it up towards -40db daily listening

it can be 1 of 3 things really;

1. im used to the volume
2. i have damaged the output chips
3. i have sent clipped signals and have damaged my coils (impedence is now around 7ohm (they are rated at 8ohm btw))

pics of setup

Wharedale Laser Range 30's currently off Aiwa amp shown in above pic, soon to be given some real power

on a side note my sub sounds better in my room with the port shut (blocked up) than it does ported. Im using a car sub also.

How do you power your car amp ?im running my sub at 30wrms lol, and have a 1kwrms car amp........

ok, so. i take it your running the sub off the .1 output from the amp, right?

in which case is it just the front speakers that are quieter or the sub as well? if its the sub as well its more than likely that its the signal coming from the pc rather than a proper with the opamps in the yamaha because as you know, the yamaha doesnt power the sub. you with me?

an atx psu will do it with ease. my corsair has 50amps available which is plenty for any reasonable care amp. I just use a 2x100w denon home amp to power my subs:) no messing about with car amps and psu's then:)

yep, the yamaha is only sending the signal to the car amp via rca from the sub output from the yamaha.

i could power the sub from the B channel off the amp, but with a 4ohm load it may damage the amp, im happy running the sub off the car amp as it works the best for me.

the sound coming from the warfedales seems lower than usual but they are directly infront of me so i reckon it is down to hearing damage and just getting used to the level of noise. was the same when i had the car audio... i miss it dearly

eracer the sub is getting 280wrms, lots of power for that wee sub :D

no you cant do that. the yamaha doesnt have seperate amplification for the 'B' set of speakers, all it would do is hook the sub up to one of the main channels - ie run it in parallel with one of your front speakers. full range would get to the sub and it would sound awful lol

so is it just the front speakers or the sub thats quieter as well? you didnt say...

Was the amp new? It could just be because it's bedding/running in?

it was bought off my uncle, ive a fair feeling it was never run hard

it seems that its just the fronts that are lower than usual, but like i said there are right infront of me producing the full range (that they can produce ofcourse) so they have probably damaged my hearing therfore it seems lower than usual

your monitors blocking convectional cooling of the amps heatsink, causing your amps output transistors junction temp to skyrocket = output power loss

errr, no lol.... going further that what james said, my monitor isnt blocking ANY heat from the FET's as the heatsink it along the front of the amp right behind the display, so its nothing to do with cooling

squiffy - i havnt changed any of the levels be it distance or hpf of lpf
