Not bad for $10

Looks quite cool. I went to a Saab day near my place once where you could test drive any of the Saab line for nowt. It was good fun. I went out in a 9-5 Aero with paddle shift, 9-3 convertible and 9-3 Aero.

However, it was just on public roads, so not that much fun, just driving, although I knew the salesman quite well and he was waxing lyrical about the 9-5's speed, so we did try it out a bit on the A46 :)

A bit dissapointing, tbh. Yes it was fast, but it felt very detached. 90+ came and went without you really noticing.

Would be tempted by the hummer, but the pontiac solstice looks tempting, kinda a mini tvr!

Yeah, that solstice looks nice!

GXP's 2.0L Turbo ECOTEC spark ignition direct injection DOHC spools out 260hp and 260lb-ft of torque. While no other four-cylinder roadster can offer the same balanced power, fuel economy may be a still bigger story. Zero-to-60 takes less than 5.5, yet GXP's highway mileage is actually higher than the 2.4L's.*

i remeber seeing stuff about the solstice and being truely shocked that the americans had actually made a lightweight(ish) small roadster, they do look very very nice little cars, i guess how they actually handel is the big question....

.... and thats a total bargain! how come anything like that in the uk is £100 and you get one slow lap of a car park :(

I remember those guys who rented a viper for a day, was $400 I think

I looked at a viper for a couple of days road use but the mileage limits were a prob so I have booked a normal ( mustang/sebring etc ) convertable for under $60 inc all insurance and fuel

because GM isnt so desperate over here and therefore subsidising the rest of the cost! ;)

I've done this - and posted a trip report on it at LVTalk - Rotty use the search  :P

We went on this today, and it is a great deal for ten bucks. I had had a $1 Bud at OSheas so thought I wouldnt pass the breathalyzer but it read a 0.0 - guess they water it down! When I was there they had a new record for a guy on the breathalyser - 0.219 (I think).

For $10 you get two rides, you can do 2x2 laps on the performance circuit, or once on the off road and once on the circuit. I have no desire to drive a tarted up pickup H2 so hit the track.

First I took out the Corvette C6. They only have autos and wont let you use the tip trans. The track is pretty small but enough to have some fun on. I made some small talk with the instructor guy, he said he rallied a WRX professionally. So I get in, its a little small for a guy of my stature 6'7", but I could fit ok. You cruise up to the light tree and wait for it to go green. Guy said I could go as fast as I want so I punch it. No drama off the line, traction control takes care of it. I took it at a reasonable pace on the first lap. The C6 has nasty kickdown - I cant see why anyone would buy an auto sportscar! Second lap I go for it, hit the apex on the first corner, decent set of left-right chicanes then a 90-deg left hander. Rear end starts to kick out, a quick bit of opposite lock brings it back into line. Pretty fun drive, but the vette isnt for me. Didnt feel that fast off the line, but I think that's the traction control and the auto box. Certainly when the 'box had taken up the slack it had good punch.

Next up was the GTO (didn't they just stop making these in the US?). Different instructor this time. After I apexed the first corner just right he asked me what I raced! LOL! I told him online and had some fun at home in my old VW GTI. On the second lap a big ass bang came from the rear suspension so I took it slow for the rest of the lap. I am pretty sure something is wrong with that car now!

Another member of our group wanted to do the offroad thing, so we took out an H2, me in the back as a passenger. The offroad course is pretty challening, and the H2 performed well. She had fun driving it and the instructor put her at ease.

One of the best bits is that anyone who isnt driving can ride along for free in cars with 4 doors. Some of the other cars they had there: Solstice, Saab 9-3, Caddy CTS-V and on the offroad course they had H3, H2 SUT, Escalade and the Yukon.

hadn't noticed that one

260bhp is a bit girly though ;) :D

Actually it has 100hp or so more than the MX-5, but it is around 250kilos or so heavier

I agree that it seems a bit underpowered though, certainly for it's looks, which I really like.

I'm surprised that it hasn't got some big displacement V8 lump in there, especially as the current trend favours reviving classic motors. Although it looks to me more reminiscent of the Jag C Type, it could be marketed as harking back to the spirit of the Shelby Cobra.

Stick a vette V8 in the front, that'll do it :D
