Hey OcUK,

I just put together my Dads PC, I put in a new mobo, new CPU, new graphics card, new PSU and new HDD. Left HDD, two PCI things and two DVD drives in.

Now, I come to turn the PC on and fans spin, DVD drives whir but I get no POST and no display on my monitor, USB mouse wont work, PS/U Keyboard wont work, nothing.

What is the problem here?

I've got a 1GB and 2GB sticks, tried just one stick in, no luck.

And the GPU is brand new, I could test in my PC but that means I'd have to shut everything I'm doing....

Tried a CMOS clear

Is the new PSU switched on at the back? lol. See'n funny things

Lol, I said, fans spin

Thats the point mate its new and could be doa straight out of the box!

I'd try it to be honest, process of elimination is the aim of the game :D

Ok, it works, just tried on my PC.

I'm thinking mobo is dead, no connections coming from it works, no PCI connections work, well, the fan spins on my GPU, just the CPU Fan spins, only thing I see of life from the mobo.

Disconnect everything apart from the GFX card, and make sure the GFX card is seated properly (worth taking it out and reseating it, they often need a fair bit of pressure to seat properly). Make sure GFX has all required power connectors (it may need two depending on model). Make sure mobo has all required power connectors (again may need both 24 pin and 8 pin depending on model).

So, with only CPU, 1 stick of known good memory and the GFX, try booting. If that works, add components back in 1 by 1. If it doesn't, try with another GFX card if available or a different stick of memory and finally a different PSU if available.

It's all about a process of elimination and working through methodically. Good luck :)

Ok, tried that, it doesn't work. I'm thinking the motherboard is broken, as no USB ports work on it.

That maybe the case but check that the bios it has been shipped with supports that particular CPU. I had to do a bios update on mine. I had the same symptoms.

Well, Quad Core works with it, so why wont Dual Core?

Yeah that sucks :(

Just wondering how you know that USB doesn't work though? If it doesn't post, USB won't have initialised, so possibly solving the POST issue will get your ports working.

Well, mouse doesn't turn on, and it wont POST, ever...

Try different ram with the new mobo if you can as you never know it just might be imcompatible.
Has the mobo got a speaker? If so try booting without ram of gfx to see if it gives you the error beeps,if you dont get them you know the mobo is dead.

The mobo that I think doesn't work came with the RAM, so I know that will work. And it does because it used to give POST, which beeps...

Anyway, bought a new one, will come tuesday.

The mobo that was originally in PC is pretty damn old, it's BIOS is huge and it has a connection for a speaker to POST.
