Not checking in for a group flight

I'm going away with some mates for a weekend in March and have just been offered the chance to go skiing with family the following week. This would be quite an easy trip by train from where we are going in Austria so I obviously don't want to take my return flight home to the UK then fly back out.

Does anyone know whether it will cause problems at the airport for the rest of the group if I don't show for check in?

It would delay the flight to it's latest check-in/departure, if you were the only remain passenger, but then it would just leave.. You would help them by informing them that your not coming. It won't affect the group as they see you as individuals, not a group.
Surely that's common sense.

If you haven't checked in for return flight then no problem at all

Technically if it's a return, scheduled flight you could be billed for any difference if a single was more money but that won't happen

If you have checked in then it should still be ok as the systems will show you didn't arrive but wouldn't harm to let them know

Well, you say that but when I flew with work a few weeks back, the check in procedure had to be online due to no desks at the airport and it only permitted all travellers to check in or none at all. Very much treated as a group and not individuals. Worth double checking.

In the past I have seen return flights cancelled by an airline when the outbound wasn't taken (assuming booked as a round trip)
Check with the airline.

This is now almost entirely universal policy too. A passenger who doesn't check in for the first flight on a segment gets the entire itinerary cancelled.
