I've just got hold of an X1950Pro, and I'm having some issues with it.

It's fine under windows etc, but within <5 mins of launching a game it bombs out. The display shuts off, and the fan speeds upto full - but it doesn't restart the system.

I've checked the 6-pin power cable is plugged in correctly, and reinstalled the drivers.

System is as follows:
Gigabyte S3
C2D 6300 (Default)
2gig Corsair PC6400
Tagan 480w Modular

The card that was in there previously was an X800, which from what I've read uses about 20-25w less than the X1950.

What do you think?

The Tagan should be quite capable of powering the system and graphics card, you haven't overclocked your PC so it should be well within limits. This doesn't rule out a faulty PSU or faulty graphics card but it shouldn't be inherantly incapable. :)

I haven't got 3DM installed, but I've tried a few different 3D games and it does it in all of them.

Having tinkered about with it, I can hear a "ticking" sound from the card when it's under load (before it bombs out). I heard CPU's make this sound before, but never a GPU?

I've got another system to try it in, which has an Antec 430w in it. Should still be enough power to run it adequately, so I'll try it in that.

Is it the GPU fan that speeds up to full? It could be overheating if thats the case. ATI has a temperature monitor with its catalyst drivers.

Is there a default shut off value for the temperature? It seems to be hitting 75°C and within a few seconds bombs out.

If I place a fan over the card, GPU.Env temps drop by about 10°C, and Core stays around 70°C.

I'd say 70-75°C would be about right for a card with default cooler sat in a case. But 70°C with a 120mm fan blowing over it, not in a case? Seems a tad high?!
