Not enough room for AMP/Speakers, will Aego's be good enough?

Just bought a desk (up until now, I've had to sit on the floor to use my computer, which was sitting on a 50cm or so tall unit. Had to move furniture around to accomodate desk (this room is only 8ftx8ft6). I now have no room for my amp and speakers to go. Well I could hook them up, but both the speakers would be to the right of me, towards another wall of the room.

I've hooked up the 5.1 speakers I got cheap with my 2405FPW, with the nice centre speaker that attaches to the monitor. They sound crap though, compared to the sony amp and speakers that I'm used to listening to. The bass the sub produces doesn't sound like its part of the music, it just sounds like this odd rumble going in tune with the music, and the sats have far too much treble, everything sounds tinny.

People here seem to love the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 speakers, but are they actually any good, and can they at least hold a candle to a low end amp and speaker system? I really don't have the space for full size speakers, although I could mount some small bookshelf speakers on the wall, recommendations of those would be great too! :D

I don't have much to spend at the moment, so try and keep the prices low, under £200 if possible. I'm not really looking at 5.1/7.1 etc, I play music more than games, and when I do game, I usually use my headphones, so I'm only looking for 2.1 :)

Any help/thoughts appreciated!

Never tried the Aego M's but there is ways to have a hi-fi setup that doesn't take up much room. I've got JBL Control 1's attached to some universal satellite stands, so they're hovering over my desk and the stands come up behind the desk. The stands have triangular feet so they can be close to a wall and the desk to wall gap is only 6 inch. Then for an amp I'm using the Sonic Impact t-amp, which is about £25 (plus £20 for a 12V 2A adaptor) and only 6*4 inches.

The JBLs also come with wall brackets btw, which would be even easier than stands.

You can see the t-amp on the right shot under the right speaker, the little flat thing that looks like a bad prop from star trek. It's only 15W but that's plenty loud enough in reality.

I'm not necessarily saying get the JBLs btw. They're £50 from RS and you may well be willing to get something better/more expensive. I'm very happy with how they sound, but they don't quite match my hi-fi.

That doesn't look bad!

The desk is the Zed pc trolley, in the workstation section at Argos, its only 80cm wide, everything else I saw that looked nice was too wide, I've not got much space at my disposal at the moment :( As you can imagine, my 2405 takes up much of the width of the desk, so idealy I'd like to somehow raise the speakers above the monitor, either with brackets, or something like those stands you have there.

That setup you have there does look good though, something I shall look into! :D

Got a DiNovo Laser on the way, hopefully today, to replace my Logitech Cordless Desktop which has been dropped half a million times due to resting on my lap and what not. Didn't really wanna spend that much on a keyboard and mouse, but I wanted wireless, and most of the wireless keyboards have poor range and/or weirdly organised keys!
