Hey all hope someone can help with this conundrum. I have just purchased a Western digital passport 320gb drive from overclockers and I am trying to copy 250gb approx of files onto it. There is roughly 300gb of free space but I keep getting the message "not enough space" after about 30mins of copying?.

I have reformatted the drive for NTFS rather than fat32, removing all the extra crap on the drive. And I'm copying the files on a vista 64bit ultimate rig with 4gb of ram dual core cpu etc.

I have try'd to copy smaller folders say 50-70gb as well and still get the same message any ideas would be welcome?!.

Cheers Adrian

Sounds stupid, but have you got a quota enabled on the drive?
If you right click on the drive you are copying to, select properties and one of the tabs will be called Quota.
See if that is enabled.
I think by default, quota's should be disabled, but I have been caught out a few times with Windows 2003 Server like this.

Have just checked the Quota tab and Quota management is disabled so thats not it, didn't think to check that though thanks for replying.

Your problem could be that your C: drive has about 9% free space.
Empty your recycle bin, get rid of temporary files.
Try copying folder/file that is less than 10GB in size, does it work?

Ok, how many drives, how much free space on each and have you tried small file copies to the external dive from E:?

Oh, and try unplugging the external drive, rebooting reconnecting it and trying again with small file copies.
