Not even getting half a meg speed

Probably very unhelpful, but a funny experience I had....

I left my HTC Desire plugged in and my PC was using that for internet, when I did a speed test I almost fell out my chair.

Needless to say I told no one until now :P

I rang up BT and they sending me some device that you plug in that reduces the noise on the line, lets see if that helps.

If you get bad sync speeds in the test socket (please confirm you have actually removed the face plate on the master socket and tried the test socket) then you will get bad sync speeds regardless and the fault lies outside of your connection to the line.

yeh i tried that this morning and there was no improvment

Have you tried changing the filter?
The BB Accelerator theyre sending you (guessin thats what it is) wont make any difference if yer synching @ .5Mb @ Test socket

Stats are fine, the problem is the profile isn't set correctly for them. It looks like your stuck on a L2 banded interleaving profile (normally 576kbit but sometimes shows as 575).

Good luck getting BT to sort that I'm having to knock heads together to get that sorted on a line myself - openreach HATE manually over-riding auto settings for some reason.

EDIT: I would suggest NOT messing around with the connection further as the BT system is retarded - will probably see your connection as having more "problems" and drop you down another level and you'll be stuck on dialup speeds :S

How I see it is..

There was a fault on the line, BT have fixed the line fault but failed to change the SNR profile after the fault was fixed, all BT need to do is reset the SNR margin back to 6dB and it will be fine.

BT are a crap isp at sorting anything out and you will get a stupid idiot Indian person who doesn't have a clue what they are talking about telling you this and that when all he needs to do is reset the noise margin, simples.

Its more complicated that resetting the noise margin. Its stuck on a banded (interleaving) profile when it needs to be reset to the normal rate adaptive (probably with fastpath) profile (which will automatically reset the SNR target).

Depends on ISP. Fastpath is default on BT but its left on auto and slightest problem and interleaving is enabled :(

Its insanely difficult to get BT to fix a line fault, I had a fault for 3 months and made about 15 phone calls to them it was disgusting to deal with them. If you call your just going to get bounced around the Indian call centres for a while.

If you've made a proper effort to get an issue resolved through the normal channels don't hesitate to escalate it. The directors high level complaints team is very good (to the point of being annoying lol they phone me back every few hours to let me know they are on the job even when theres no progress to report), sad that the front line support is so rubbish.

dont mean to hijack....but my speed has gone down over the lasst week or so....was getting close to 2 meg but now down to 1.3......what should i be looking at from below

Uptime: 0 days, 4:25:16

DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 2,080

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 16.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 53.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 19.0

see anything that needs sorting here

Stats look ok for what it is - you should be getting twice that sync really - i.e. around 4000kbit connection and 3-3.5mbit throughput ~400KByte/s.

your right after receiving the accelerator on Saturday it hasnt made the slightest difference!!!!!!! looks like i gonna have a long day tomorrow competing with the call centre.

Good look in getting BT to do anything, Something simple as resetting a profile is very hard for BT to do yet other ISP manage to do it over the phone.

BT are epic fail :( No other way to describe them.
Been having sync problems for about 4 months now. Randomly my DSL just drops out (as in, completely :O then for approx 5 mins there isnt even a DSL connection being received in the property).

BT keep coming out, checking the internal wiring, going away. Problem persists so phone up, engineer comes out .. checks the internal wiring, says its fine, goes away .. persists.

Had to laugh out loud, really, thismorning though. I finally got a non asian Customer dude at BT, he was american, and he told me to sue their ass lol. Gave me a chuckle.

I got a phone call this morning stating an engineer will be coming tomorrow, but know i just checked and by some miracle the problem is fixed and my speed is back to normal. lets hope it stays that way !!!!!!!!

I not going to phone BT to cancel the engineer, lets see how they feel when they get messed about. ;)
