Hey guys im not sure if this is really the right section to post this problem but it seems to be most frequently encountered by overlcockers so seemed a good place to start.

Ive just finished building my first computer (specs at end) and am now getting this error and its twin brother 'Not Convergent in SQR05' whenever i try to run superpi. From what ive found looking olnine this usually happens while overlcocking and means u need to up the voltage or take a step back(please coorect me if im wrong), however all the components were bought new, from OC and it really doesnt seem like i should be upping voltages on stock speeds. Has anyone got any idea what this could be down to? Hardware fault? software? me doing something stupid? any responces would be very much appreciated

Case: Tsunami dream
PSU: Enermax 500w
CPU: E6300
Cooler: Zalman aero flower
GPU:X1800xt
Ram:GeIL 2GB PC6400
HD: Barracuda 320g
MOBO: Gigabyte 965p-DS3

Run memtest and check your memory. If thats ok then run small ffts on prime and check your cpu. Whats your temps like? What are your memory timings set to?

As above, it sounds like your pushing the chip firther than it wants to go. Try looser ram timings, and more voltage.

I haven't done anything to the memory yet so i should imagine its working at stock latencies 4-4-4-12.

Been running memtest for 50 mins so far, first pass was fine but the second chucked up 140 errors (though i did unplug keyboard and some other bits from the back, should that make any difference?). I'll keep memtest working a bit longer but do these errors mean that theres something wrong with my ram? Once memtests' run the 2 hours ill make sure the rams fully fitted into the mobo but presuming that doesnt make any diference what should i do?

Check your RAM voltage, it might need upto 2.3V to work properly.

Is that common for out of the box ram to need bumped up voltage? (at stock speed)

Oh and my temps seem quite resonable CPU idle 40, system 30, havent tried under load yet

It's very common for RAM to run at the minimum setting (1.8V) and also at the wrong timings, you should always manually set the voltage, timings and divider (where applicable).

Ok i'll cancel memtest and try and sort out the mem times\voltage are those just adjusted within the normal bios? and can i just wack it on 2.3 or should i be more gradual? This rigs where im planning to learn the inns and outs of overclocking but wasnt quite expecting to be changing voltages this early :P.

well I've upped the volt to 2.3 but its still getting the same error, also reset a couple of times randomely to, as for divider, timings i cant actualy see where u alter them, where are those settings hiding?

I would run Memtest for a while and if it still errors it looks like the RAM might be broken.

Edit: Try just one stick and also the other one, if it is a RAM fault it should only be one of the sticks.

well both of my memory modules have atleast some failures on memtest (independent of each other) which dont seem good, guess i'll try returning them and getting a fresh pair.

Both sticks have errors?

Looks like someone at OcUK had a game of DDR2 footy or you got a bad batch. Either that or something else is to blame such as mobo or CPU.

ah wondered about the nike footprint, I supose it could be another component but that wouldnt explain the problems in memtest. Tried both sets of slots in my motherboard as well so think i must just of been unlucky.
