Hi,

I upgraded my spec this summer, but unfortunately it's just still not fast enough for World of Warcraft :/ Any ideas on what I should upgrade to make it finally play the game decently?
Spec is (I built it myself!):
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
RAM: DDR2 PC2-6400 4094MB RAM
HDD: 500 GB Raid 0 (2x 250GB)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870
Monitor: Dell 2005FPW
Keyboard: Logitech G15
Mouse: Logitech G5
Mousemat: Steelseries Gamepad
Headset: Fatality Gaming Headset
Case: Silverstone Temjin
OS: Windows Vista™ Business

I think it might either be the mouse or the mousemat, but either way its not running WoW much faster than my previous spec, and considering it's all I ever hope to play I'm stumped. Any help will be appreciated.

edit: I even tried overclocking but it makes the ram hot and it wasn't worth it

Rage 450, ok. Can you link me? Does ocuk sell it, and is it easy to fit to my mouse?
My current mousemat wasn't the easiest mat to fit on the mouse so I'd like an easier one next time

A fool and their money..

Format vista and start from scratch without installing all your crap thats slowing your system down that spec can run Crysis, FC2 very well it should eat WoW

System requirements
Windows
Windows 2000, Windows Vista or Windows XP
Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon 800 MHz
512 MB or more of RAM
32 MB 3D video card with Hardware T&L or better
6.0 GB free HD space
4× CD-ROM drive
56 kbit/s or faster Internet connection

If I format though it'll delete my WoW character. You do realise this means Id lose my level 80 mage right?
Plus Crysis is soooo badly programmed don't even get me started!
I had to upgrade as my previous spec was a measly C2D e6600 and nvidia 7600GT -how is that supposed to run WoW, the only game I play?...

I've never played WoW but I'm guessing it's like BF2 where your character is stored online?

Crysis vs WoW :p

You have to much money imo 7600GT can play games like HL2 on high no problem :S

Your rig is better than mine and I'll bet anything I could run WoW and another game and WoW would still run fine.

Erm, firstly I'll say again Crysis is awfully programmed.
And secondly, if my previous rig ran WoW fine then why would I upgrade? Ask yourself that.
Any helpful suggestions?

I do agree with the others, a fool with their money. Crysis is not awfully programmed.

How would your mouse/mousemat interfere with the performance of your system? It has nothing remotely to do with it. You could play with a rollerball mouse on a wooden surface and it wouldn't make any different to your framerates.

However I will try to help you, do you have the latest drivers for your 4870? Your system should fly on WoW as even 8600 cards run this game perfectly. What kind of framerates are you getting currently?

EDIT: Headset: Fatality Gaming Headset, \o/

A friend of mine ran wow on a 7600gt and amd 4200x2 just fine, but obviously thats not enough for you, cpu upgrade was absoloutly pointless to start with, graphics was a worthy upgrade but id have to debate that fact solely for the use of WOW and lastly if you charictor isnt kept on a server which id have thought it was (havnt stooped so low as to play WOW) you could wit a little Googling find where it is located on your pc and back it up to later replace once you have done a nice fresh install.

As for your last rig not playing wow properly, id hazzerd a guess at you being the sort that has things like norton and registry mechanic running full time in the background, maybe some bareshare aswell????

Its amazing how underrated Google is!!!!!!

I think it was a C2D e6400 actually, so that explains it. No way am I putting up with a system that can only get 60fps out of WoW :s
For some reason my current system is stuck at the same number. Its probably the mouse like I said because logitech's software slows down the graphics card as it has to process the extra dpi.
No crysis is awful :s

Your eyes can only see something like 25 frames per second, what difference does it make? 60 frames or 300 frames. Anyhow, your mouse has nothing to do with your framerates. It would not slow down a 4870 on WoW, believe me.

stuck at 60fps suggests vsync, but thats beside the point, 60fps is more than enough for wow and this thread is now a joke!

Edit*** I hope you have upgraded because of Vsync, it will teach a much needed lesson!

As others have said if you are not happy with the performance in game then try first of all checking your task manager to see if any processes are using a lot of your power but if you cant see anything too obvious just reformat Vista.

This must be someone having a laugh

As above, it's no doubt limited to 60 frames per second, either through the games engine or capped by your refresh rate.

I thought the very same thing!

Erm ok. I doubt what you say, since I'm pretty sure an i7 920 with 3x nvidia 280s in SLI and ddr3 1600mhz would run WoW faster than this. Just wanted to know if theres anything short of another upgrade I can do.
As I said I tried overclocking but it made my ram hot and made no difference.
I'm not sure about reformatting, since PC world probably won't do it for me since I built it

edit: how do I make my xfire sig smaller?
