Not getting any sound from mic inputs..

I'm using Vista 32 bit ultimate, onboard sound on the Abit IP35 Pro and trying to record in Audacity and Reaper. Cant get any sound to be recorded, or even come through the mic. I've checked that all the drivers are up to date, enabled all the correct inputs in the "Recording Devices" bit in windows sound and in the programs I'm trying to use and still nothing. Any ideas? I thought the ports may be nackered but it still recognises when something is plugged in or not so can I rule that out?

And no its not the mic, it works fine on my laptop running XP.

edit - never mind, I just updated the Realtek driver and it works now
